Advantages: cheap and average looking

Disadvantages: no digital timer

I was bought this microwave oven as a house warming gift when I moved house recently. It was one of those gifts that, whilst greatful for, I already had a microwave oven. As my memory serves it was a gift from a cousin or other relative that simply doesnt know me or what I need and bought me something that they just assumed that a young person would need when they moved house.

On the up side, the microwave I had was old and was about due to be replaced. So happily I gave away my old microwave in favour of this Daewoo model.

I really wish I had not.

Please dont get me wrong, this microwave oven does a perfectaly ok job. It heats food just fine. It has several different settings including a defrost mode.

My big issue with this microwave is that it is not digital. I simply cannot understand why someone would design and build a technology as advanced as a microwave oven and then stick an analouge timer on the front of it. Apart from being less desireable, there is a clear reason for wanting a digital display - because it is hard to set an exact time on this thing. If you think that I am quibbling over details then try sticking a forzen bread roll in the microwave as an example - just over 11 seconds will defrost it. but if you cant set this, then you could be getting anything up to 30 seconds. what yo end up with is a rock that looks like a bread roll.

trust me, when a microwave is powerful - like this one is - then the timing is all important.

I have found the space in this oven to be adequate - not massive, but not tiny. The last microwave I had was larger (it also had a digital timer) but then it cost a lot more than this one.

I have found this microwave to be very good for the money, but the lack of a couple of features makes all the difference.

Summary: lacking in some key features, but does the job

Good compact review although cleaning it, noise levels and price would be good to know especially if its still on sale.

I too, prefer digital displays but for the benefit of just a simple oven for reheating, mechanical dial types are great for offices that just need the basic oven for simple reheats or cooking with short blasts of heat. Companies are now producing digital microwaves with rotary controls instead of being able to enter 99.99 style numbers separately which can be a downside if you need to do specific cooking as you outline in your review. You can always get around the timer thing by opening the door earlier! thats what I do with our work one!
