Advantages: Lasts well, easy to clean
Disadvantages: Timer tricky to get right
When I first moved out of my mums 3 year ago, I was a little daunted by how much I had to buy to set up home, and how much to buy to prepare for a new baby. I accepted whatever help was thrown my way, a lot of things in my house were second hand cast offs. My nan does a car boot every summer and the family give her all of their old things to sell. One thing my nan had in her garage ready for car boot was this microwave, instead of going to the car boot it got given to me!

---- Design ----
The design of this microwave is quite simple, it's not exactly the best looking microwave on the market but I didn't need it to look amazing. Its basic white in colour, with a black crisscross effect viewing window on the door. The handle to open the door to the microwave is integrated into the door itself and is quite thick so it's easy to get a good grip on. To the right hand side of the microwave there are two dial, one for the power level and one for the time.
---- In use ----
The microwave comes with a comprehensive set of instructions, well, they call them instructions but after the first few pages it's more like a cookery book with lots of recipes. The information booklet contains all the normal information you'd find, precautions, warnings, how to clean and the like.
The microwave is quite easy to use, simply turn the dial to the required number of minutes, make sure the power dial is set at the right power and away you go. This seems quite easy to do, but if you are heating things up for, say, 1 minute 20 seconds for example, it's very difficult to set the microwave for the required amount of time. My poor Rustler burgers usually end up coming out with a hard bun as I haven't calculated the time properly. If you need to heat up something that takes exactly so many minutes then it's easy, a lot easier than trying to fiddle about getting it to the correct time.
The power dial isn't something I use often. If I'm not using the full power 700W then it's usually the defrost setting, and that doesn't get used often. 700W isn't exactly going to heat everything up super quick as higher wattage microwaves do, but it suits us fine, and I don't mind waiting a minute or 2 more for our food to be ready.
The noise the microwave makes is just about right, it isn't too loud that you dread to turn it on, and it isn't so quiet that you can't hear it. It seems to just be there, if you see what I mean. Once the microwave timer has reached zero, the ding is quite high pitched and audible from the lounge if the door between the kitchen and lounge are closed, so quite loud, but that's perfect so you don't forget about it.
As the microwave is white, it shows up dirt straight away, but that isn't a problem as it is so easy to clean. As with most microwaves, the plate and the round rubber ring the plate sits on can be lifted straight out and washed in warm soapy water. Before cleaning the inside, I always heat a bowl of water up as the steam that comes from this water lifts the dirt away slightly. After taking the bowl of water out again, the dirt can just be wiped off, simples!
---- Overall ----
Since this microwave was originally given to my nan for her to put on the car boot I don't know exactly how long it's been in use. All I do know is that it is longer than 3 years as that's how long I've had it. After a quick Google I've found it's available to buy for around £50. I think that is an absolute bargain considering how long it could have been in use. The only downside to this microwave is the fiddly timer and trying to get the time right.
Summary: A nice microwave, not for going to car boots!
