Advantages: High Power, Chaos Defrost, Inverter System
Disadvantages: The Grill!
Having being used to a monster sized Toshiba Microwave for the last 15 years we finally had to part when the touch-panel malfunctioned and the cost of the repairs was going to be around £100! The hunt was on for a new oven with the basic features (we don't like the combination style ovens very much) and a family sized interior. Very quickly we found that we couldn't get a Toshiba machine, but on the recommendation of friends we settled on looking at Panasonic. However arriving at the local electrical shop we are greeted by row upon row of machine! What's the major differences we asked the shop assistant, who didn't really seem to be that clued up. Well to summarise, the basic machine just gives you a microwave and nothing else. These machines tend to be quite small and are not really suitable for a family. The next range up is a Mircowave-Browner, a combination of a microwave and a Grill, Finally there is the combination microwave, grill and oven. As I said before, we were looking for a simple family sized machine and more to the pointed one available in a brushed metallic finish. Well the Panasonic NNV629M fits the bill precisely - well almost. Ok it's a Micro Browner with 1 cu ft Capacity, which is big enough for the family. Its a 900W Power, category E, machine which means that it is quite fast at eating up everything. The machine also comes with a 1.3KW Variable grill (see below). More to the point it has the Inverter system which makes the oven relatively light giving you more space inside the oven without taking up to much worktop space. It also has a "Chaos defrost" system that doesn't cook your food whilst its being defrosted and actually speeds up the process. AS a bonus there is the standard Panasonic Microwave Cookery Book, which is very informative and has some intersting recipes. The control panel is nicely laid out and follows the now standard fas
hion with the micro power, grill and combination buttons. The "Chaos defrost" facility is wonderful, the best I've used. The grill has three settings, high (1), medium (2) and low (3), it can be used on it’s own or in combination with the microwave. The combination works well for certain foods, but be careful. Enjoy
