Advantages: Steam clean mode and cooks food to perfection.
Disadvantages: Heavy and bulky, you need a fair bit of of kitchen space.
The Samsung BCE1197 SILVER microwave is a simple stylish easy to use microwave. I have always hated my last microwave, as it was so complicated to program, to get your food cooked for the right time and so that it was not burnt. The Samsung has a smart code system that tells me exactly how long to cook the food for, and displays to me instructions on how to prepare the food, step by step. I feel this is a genius invention, even though I know this technology has been around for many years. There are some products and a well known high end supermarket that has the smart code symbol on their microwaved food, you scan the product over the control panel and the information is displayed. As I lead a very busy life style this is a neat idea, but there is a slight draw back with this smart code system. You have to look around and find products that have the symbol on the product, this has been a little bit of a nightmare, out of 100% of my shopping I would say 30% of the food I eat has the code, if not then you just have to use the microwave the old fashioned way and manually input the cooking time.
Other features that are great about the Samsung BCE1197 is that it's not just a microwave, it's a conventional combination, fan oven and grill. A decent one at that. Long gone are the days that my food came out burnt, under cooked or as dry as cardboard. This microwave has cooked my food to perfection every time I have used it, and I use it every day. The controls are electronic touch with 7 power levels including chilled, frozen and defrost, but that is what I would expect anyway from a similar product.
There were 3 key features that sold the product to me:
It self cleans, using a water bowel with around 30mls of water you put it in to the oven and it steam cleans the inside of the microwave. We all know how food can splatter around and become all crust. For me it was time consuming cleaning my old microwave, but now a simple wipe with a cloth afterwards and job done. I have two young nieces that come round often, and they are always getting up to mischief and putting there hands into places where they shouldn't be. This product is great for that, as it has a child lock feature. Last but not least, I really like the fast pre heat setting that quickly heats up the oven very fast, as like I said with today's rat race, for me now this is essential and cuts a lot of time out better to be used else where.
On the down side, I was moving house 3 months ago and found that the oven weighs a lot, and it is not a small microwave to move around on your own. You need ample kitchen space to position the microwave, so please keep this in mind if your thinking of buying this product. Apart from that the Samsung microwave is very user friendly and has a vast array of functions compared to a basic standard microwave. Along with it's powerful 900 wat , this microwave is a great simplistic essential item in my kitchen, and I have been extremely happy with its durability and performance.
Summary: Superb value, efficient and jam packed with technology.
