Advantages: Price, powerful and compact

Disadvantages: Maybe too compact

About a year and a half ago our old microwave gave up the ghost an we had to say our goodbyes and go out and buy a replacement.

We had a fairly limited budget between 50 - 80 pounds, plus the area of my kitchen that homed my old microwave was quite small, so the size of our new microwave would have to be limited too.

When I buy any new electrical appliances now-a-days I usually spend a good bit of time comparing options and prices online (my son has me well trained!) but this time our need for a microwave was great so the comparisons went out the window (along with the old microwave) and we just headed down to our local Argos store. Well, before we went I did do some homework flicking through the catalogue at home and found my desired choice - the Sanyo EM-S1565 microwave.

It came in at £49.99 and was a neat little size at around 45cm wide by 30cm high by 35cm deep. It has power of 800 watts and has a digital display. It has various power settings and defrost options.

It likes to beep. If you use the microwave and it finishes, it beeps (as you'd expect) but if you don't open the door it'll give you a few more beeps a minute later to tell you to hurry up because your dinner's getting cold!

I've found the microwave to be very good and would recommend it. The only downside would be its size. If you have large plates they may not fit in it, or if they are square oplates they may have trouble revolving.

I've checked on Argos's website and they currently stock a slightly newer model the Sanyo EM-S1567, which is very very similar to the EM-S1565 as you'd imagine, and it still costs £49.99.
Good old Argos!

Summary: Good cheap digital microwave

Fair review but would have been handy to add in details such as how good the cooking programs actually are; if it has an auto cook function and if it works as well as the defrost performance, noise, cleaning it and general use.
