Call me materialistic, but when Mr Frank and I got engaged, one of the things I was really looking forward to was picking out items to put in our new home. Neither of us had our own home before getting married, so it really was a case of starting from scratch. We decided to have our gift list at John Lewis because of their excellent reputation for customer service, so at least managing the list would be one less thing to worry about whilst planning a wedding.
We both decided a microwave would be a useful item to own so went off in search of a model we could both agree on (as it turns out, deciding on items for our new home together was less than plain sailing!) Fortunately, we didn't end up having an argument over which microwave to put on the list as this one ticked the boxes for both of us.
The first thing we liked about it was what it looked like. A microwave is generally on display (unless you have one of hose clever little cupboards which hide it) so it was really important to us that it looked good. It has a satinless steel finish; not quite brushed, but it's not really shiny either. It has a sleek overall look, without fussy buttons, and the display is neat. I've never been one to go in for appliances with so many buttons that they look like a control desk!
The microwave is 800 Watts which is a pretty standard level of power which suited us fine. The dimensions were also suited to our requirements; not too large or small (exterior dimensions (WxHxD): 460 x 275 x 380mm
interior dimensions (WxHxD): 319 x 211 x 336mm). It was around £80 three years ago when we put it on our wedding list, and I see it is still selling for about the same price on Amazon.
Nearly as exciting as putting the items on the gift list, is receiving them and unwrapping them after the wedding! The microwave was easily set up and comes with comprehensive instructions, which you probably won't need to refer to much if you're familiar with microwaves. It has five power levels which are great for different functions. I use level three (the lowest) for things like softening butter or melting chocolate gently. Level ten is the highest and is great for a quick cook. The microwave has an auto minute function which is very useful, and you can increase the time something is cooking in minute increments without interrupting it by using this button.
Three years on from our wedding, and the microwave is still going strong. It is easy to clean and use and I highly recommend it for a reliable appliance.
