Sharp R254
by ajp4ever
If you are looking for a decent no frills microwave which will not break the bank then look no further than the Sharp R254. Sure, there are more advanced and bigger models out there but not everyone wants, or can afford the latest all singing, all dancing models!
The Sharp has 800w which is more than enough to "nuke" ... your favourite ready meal in seconds! It has a 20 litre interior which is more than ample to take a reasonable size chicken if you wish to test out the express defrost setting.
The digital display is clear to read and the operation of the microwave itself is simplicity personified.
You have various express cook, as well as express defrost settings as well as a basic timer which is simply a case of key in how long you want to cook your meal for, hitting the start button and stepping back and wait for your meal to be ready.
This is as simple a microwave as you will find and you should be able to pick one up for under £40 and despite the price, it is still of decent quality.
All in all a decent product for a bargain price. Read the complete review |

MY Review
This Sharp ... Microwave has a lovely design, and would look great in any kitchen. Although the microwave itself does take some getting used too once your there you can really take advantage of some of its features. I'd suggest looking through the Manual as It's very easy to read, and understand. Boasting a 900W Microwave Power Output your food is cooked in rapid time in comparison to some of Sharps Previous Models Im yet to have any complaints about the power always cooking my food thoroughly and evenly. I use the grill often and I know some of you probably don't like using microwave grills, I was one of these people before I bought the Sharp, It does come with a grill rack included and I would honestly reccomend the grill works a treat giving that normal grill taste and again cooking the food evenly. The touch control is a little temperemental at times although I don't get on with any touch controls as my fingers are a little chubby I have had a few moments of frustration but I feel this is probably my fault and not the manufacturers. The microwave is of a very good size making it easier for the larger plates. It has a child safety lock which is very good, stops them little ones from touching and putting themselves at danger. Although it boasts 7 Microwave levels Ive still only found 5? So I really am not sure what that is all about. The stainless steel interior makes this microwave easy to maintain and clean, keeping the microwave looking new. Using the defrost settings, as with any microwave I hate using these defrost settings and this microwave is the same as any I have ever used before, starts to cook the food before defrosting no matter what setting you try to use I don't think I would continue using these setting after my initial trial. One of my favourite things about the microwave is that it's much quieter than any microwave I have ever owned before, although it does seem to beep a lot when it's actually in use its rather quiet. Which I like. One of the only problems I found with the Sharp R 756 SLM is that when you go to open the door the microwave tends to move around a little bit, I feel that there is a flaw in the design of the feet and they should have perhaps looked at this problem, Ive now placed mine on some blue tak to stop it from moving around too much. I have been using the microwave now for over 2 months and In my honest opinion I think value for money is incredible in comparison to similar models from other manufacturers and comes highly reccomended. ~Technical Info~
The Sharp R269 is an 800w microwave with a 22 litre capacity. It is available in silver or black, I have the black model. There are three main settings - Auto Cook (1 Jacket Potatoes, 2 Rice/Pasta 3 Fresh Vegetables), Express Cook (Roast Beef/Lamb, Roast Pork, Roast Poultry) and Express Defrost (Meat Joint, ... Whole Poultry, Chicken Quarters). It also has 5 power settings. The size is 46cm wide, 28cm high and 35cm deep. It has a push button door.
~Review~
I have owned this microwave for over a year now. It is described as mid size and although I can't admit to knowing exactly what constitutes mid size for a microwave I would say that it is definitely no bigger than that. It will just about fit a normal sized round dinner plate (width) or a 500ml jug (height). At 800w it feels powerful enough, reheating a plate of food in a couple of minutes or cooking a jacket potato in under 10.
I feel that the options available are very simple and therefore I often have to revert back to the manual when I want to use it for something different such as frozen fish. However this does help if you want to cook a quick jacket potato or defrost some chicken. When using the microwave it asks you to input the weight of the food and it will then calculate the time that is needed to cook it for. This is a very helpful option but I have found on occasions it does defrost for longer than needed so you still need to keep checking it.
The design is quite nice if a bit chunky and it will take up a good corner of your kitchen. The push button door is easy to use but may be more of a struggle for an elderly person.
If you mainly use a microwave for reheating plates of food or simple items like beans then this will do everything you want it to. However, if you use it on a more regular basis for lots of different foods and larger containers then you will probably want to look elsewhere. Read the complete review |
