Advantages: Easy and safe to use, good heat settings, well designed

Disadvantages: I wish it was a touch screen panel and not buttons

It was a couple of months ago now, just when we were looking at paying off the balance on our holiday that our microwave decided to break! I am sure the microwave didn't do it on purpose, it was about 7 years old and it had been quite good whilst it lasted. I even had an electrician from work look at it to see if there was anything he could do but it was beyond repair. Hence, I was on the lookout for a cheap model but one that would meet our needs. After looking around we purchase da Swan Microwave, model SSM600. Here are my thoughts on it.

The Microwave can be found in a number of places but I was desperate to get it at the lowest price available. In the end it was from Amazon but if you Google the model it will bring up a variety of stores that you can make he purchase from. Swan is not a model that I am overly familiar with but the specifications of the microwave met our criteria. The microwave cost us £49.99. This was about the price I was expecting to pay for the product and I certainly didn't want to pay anymore!

The microwave was something that we tried to do without for a couple of weeks but not having it made me realise just how much we did use it. When the product arrived, it was well packaged and upon opening was really easy to set up. There was an instruction booklet as well as a one year guarantee. The microwave is quite a simple design but one that I liked. It is white in colour and with quite shiny silver buttons on the right hand side. The door has a slight grove on it that allows you to open it.

The microwave has a capacity of 20 litres and it is powered by 800watts. The microwave has a good amount of flexible lead on it so I was able to plug it in and had some lead left to move it into place (about 80cm of lead). The microwave has 5 power levels and I always tend to use it on the highest setting. The microwave comes with a glass plate that slots onto a little crossbar setting and the plate fits onto there with ease, it is also dishwasher safe for when you come to give it a clean.

The microwave is not too noisy when it is in use and gives quite a distinct ping when it is finished. Whilst there is no fancy LCD display when it is counting down the minutes left, it works efficiently and effectively. The first thing that I used this microwave for was to heat up some baked beans, it worked well and I have never had a problem with cooking times, what the packaging says on food is what this microwave will take. I have cooked rice, jacket potatoes and streamed some vegetables in there and all have gone well.

There has only been a couple of times that have had to use the defrost setting, but again it works really well and the microwave is really efficient. As there are not too many settings, it is not overly complicated to use, I would much prefer this as in a way, there is less to go wrong. It will need a wipe down with a damp cloth and the silver can be polished and as I mentioned, the plate can be put in the dishwasher.

I would be happy to recommend this Swan product, easy and safe to use and works well
