Advantages: Cheap, It works, Simple, Good size
Disadvantages: Time dial could be more precise, no time
Since living where I do this is my second microwave, the first unfortunately suffered an accidental metal insertion incident, I won't bore you with the gory details, but still I needed a new one and this was it. I couldn't afford another 'posh' one so this Tesco model seemed a effortless decision. Microwaves are often between £50 and £100 in my experience so this for £30 seemed a winner.
DESIGN, The Tesco MM08 Value Microwave is a rather non-modern looking white with a black screen on the front. It's dimensions are 44cm, 34cm and 26cm (W,D,H) so not the most bulky or spacious microwave, perfect for me. It has 2 dials, a power dial (1-5 and defrost) and a time dial, both are sturdy and easy to use..nice and simple, no engineering degree required. Below the dials is the door release button that packs quite a punch. Inside the unit is the same white as the outside making it easy to see and clean dirt. The glass plate that spins to allow even cooking is removable and dishwasher safe, always a bonus. The power cable is a decent length, I can't imagine it being a problem for anyone. The whole thing feels very sturdy, the door, the buttons and the body itself.
DAY-TO-DAY, I often use this microwave and enjoy doing so, this is not to say that I don't prefer 'properly' cooked food, because I do, but it does its job very well. The manufacturing material is such that if you get any food on it, which I often do, then it is easy to clean. The amount of time it takes to cook food is similar to anything I have experienced from microwaves that both cost a lot more than this one and claim to both sing and dance. It is a microwave that works!
RELIABILITY, I have owned this microwave for 4 months and to date have not experienced any problems. It al feels very sturdy even after quite a lot of use so I'm confident it will continue its reliability.
IN SUMMARY, I am very happy that I have had my £30's worth out of this microwave. It cooks food which is after all why we buy microwaves and it doesn't look too bad either. It has a decent enough capacity without being a space stealer. The time dial is sometimes hard to get on an exact time and the door is a little powerful but these are things i'm willing to live with for the price. It doesn't tell you the time but that is what a clock is for and for the saving you make compared to a 'branded' microwave you can buy one and still be in the black.
Summary: Great for the price, can't complain
