Advantages: Cheap, Easy to use, Easy to clean
Disadvantages: Very basic, Condensation issue and low wattage power may be off-putting to some
It's as basic as they come for a Microwave oven truth be told, a white metal rectangular box with 2 dials and a door catch it certainly would never be mistaken for anything upper-end but for the price it costs it has proven itself to be a worthwhile if not uninspired buy. It's only a 700 watt microwave with a timer and power setting dial, on the plus side this makes it dead easy to use as it's as uncomplicated as they come but anyone who likes their gadgets and fancy kitchen appliances will find this lacking as it's purely a functional appliance rather than anything that's likely to wow the neighbours. The door release mechanism has a smooth action to it and when closed the door makes a reassuring 'click'. Both dials are easy to turn, clearly marked and easy to read whilst inside the microwave there is a simple glass turn table which sits ontop of a circular runner which turns when in operation.
It's quite squat in design, big enough to hold a dinner plate or microwave meal carton and my Tommee Tippee steriliser just fits although I did think it was going to be too small when I took it out of its box and sat it on my kitchen worktop so I was relieved to discover that there was just enough room to hold my steriliser, the reason I bought it in the first place. 700 watts of power is quite pitiful when compared to other makes and models but it's sufficient for me and what I use the microwave for although others will want something a little more powerful I would imagine. Similarly the power levels are next to useless given the low wattage of the appliance although the defrost function is handy for any frozen bread and other than defrost and 'high' settings I don't bother with the other 3 power levels in between as they seem a little redundant and superfluous to me.
As far as how the microwave performs when in operation I'd say it was fine, it's neither noisier or quieter than other microwave ovens I've used in the past and the turntable stops any hot spots from forming. I do find that condensation does form between the door and frame of the microwave which is a bit disconcerting and not something I've noticed from other microwave ovens but this is easily removed with a piece of kitchen roll although admittedly isn't ideal and definitely worth mentioning here.
All in all the MM8 Tesco branded microwave oven is a low cost kitchen appliance which just about serves its purpose and would be ideal for either the student market or an elderly relative who just wants something quick and easy to use. In all honesty I bought mine in a panic and had I had more time I would have shopped around for something better as there are other sub-£40.00 microwave ovens available that offer a bit more for the money. It doesn't take much room up on a kitchen counter, the mains lead is of decent length that it doesn't have to be sat too close to a plug socket and it's non-offensive in appearance. It's easily cleaned, easy to use and as basic as they come but it's nothing to write home about and it's difficult to get too excited as far as writing a review about it goes.
For £32.00 with a 12 month guarantee I'd say it's worth the money and other than the condensation issue I have no real complaints with mine Do be aware that it's not huge, it only has a 17 litre capacity with a 700 watt power output and measures around 26cm in height and 44cm in width and is unlikely to win any awards for its design. Anyone looking for a budget priced microwave could do a lot worse than this one although I do think there are better options available if you look around so 3 stars as a rating seems fair to me basing this on everything mentioned in this review.
Thanks for reading.
