Advantages: Does a good job at a good price
Disadvantages: Quite basic, bit noisy
When we first moved into our home a while ago, we brought the cheapest items we could as money was a bit tight at the time. I don't tend to microwave much, but I feel its always handy to have one for moments when you are in a rush.
I tend to do most of my shopping in Tescos, so this is where I got my cheap microwave from. I didn't want anything fancy, just a bog standard microwave that did the job was what I required and this is basically what I got.
The microwave I purchased was a white Tescos MT08 touch microwave, which I got from the Tesco Direct website, though apparently it is available to purchase instore in some of the larger Tescos stores.
The microwave is available in two colours which are black and white. I personally wanted a silver one, though at the price I paid, it wasn't going to happen! This microwave is 700 watt and has a 17 litre capacity. Considering this was just a bog standard, cheap microwave, it was of a far better quality than I expected it to be.
It had quite a sleek look to it which impressed me. I expected it to be a cheap, tacky looking object (no offence Tescos!), but it didn't. This microwave is touch display microwave, rather than dials. It has a digital display, touch buttons and jog dial. It also has a defrost setting, 95 minute timer and 8 auto clock menus, as well as a child safety lock.
Some microwaves can look a bit too big and bulky in the kitchen, and as mine is only a smallish kitchen I didn't want one that would take up too much workspace. The dimensions of this microwave are 48.8cm(W) x 38cm(L) x 29.1cm(H), which meant that it was a decent size, but not too big that it looked out of place or took up too much room.
The cost of this microwave is £33.99, which I think is excellent value for money. You can get a cheaper one from Tescos at £29.96, but this one is a bit too tacky looking for me, whereas the one I purchased was rather nice looking. Don't forget that you also get double clubcard points at the moment on all Tescos purchases at the moment, which means that by purchasing this microwave, you will get 66 clubcard points which is always a bonus.
My only slight gripe with this microwave is that it seemed to be noisier whilst in use than other microwaves I have used before. Its not a major problem, just a slight annoyance but this is the only problem I have found with it. The microwave does have an interior light so you can see your food cooking and I have found it pretty easy to clean too. As this is basically just plastic, it just needs a firm wipe down and it looks as good as new again.
Tescos do have quite an extensive range of microwaves on offer, so if you were looking to purchase this one, you would need to look for code MT08 touch microwave.
Overall, you have probably gathered by now, but I do recommend this microwave. It isn't the most stylish microwave you will ever see, nor does it have a vast array of features as some of the more premium brands do. However, if you are looking for just a bog standard microwave that does a good job at a reasonable cost, then this may be worth you looking at. It doesn't have that cheap look to it and I like the dimensions of it as it fits well into my kitchen. As said, it is a bit louder than I would have liked, but not overly so. For the price of £33.99, you are getting a really good quality microwave at a fraction of the cost of some better quality brands. Eventually we did replace ours with a silver one, but that was only for cosmetic reasons and I was able to give this one away to a friend as it was still in perfect working order. We owned ours for a couple of years and it did us proud and not once did I have any mechanical problems with it.
You can find the details you need with regards to this microwave on the Tesco Direct website. Recommended.
