Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: No clock or different settings

This basic white microwave from Tesco is simple and very straight forward to operate. There are only 2 dials on the microwave. The top of which controls the power and can be set to either min, defrost, mid, high or max. The bottom dial controls the time and can be set to different 30 second intervals going up to ten minutes and then five minute intervals going up to 35 minutes. The microwave can be interrupted during heating simply by turning the timer dial to zero or by pushing the button at the bottom to open the door as the microwave automatically cuts off. The rotating glass plate inside can be easily removed for washing.

This microwave is 700watts which is relatively low so I always use it on full power as the lower setting does not seem to be effective at doing anything. The slightly annoying thing is that food packages usually only tell you heating times for microwaves with higher wattage so I often have to guess/approximate heating time for food like ready meals. I have found it to work well on the whole - the only thing I have trouble cooking properly in there is jacket potatoes as they tend to go too soggy and over cooked or on lower power settings/times they do not seem to cook that well in the middle. However I have recently tried McCain microwavable frozen jacket potatoes which turned out perfectly.

There is no clock or electronic display on the front of this microwave and no settings for cooking various different types of food so this is probably a good microwave for a work kitchen rather than the home. Next time I will probably choose something with more power and a few more settings but this is a good basic microwave if you are on a budget or only need one for occasional use so I will still rate it 4 stars.

Summary: A decent cheap microwave with no complicated settings
