Good online store with good tracking system (CCL Computers)

Disadvantages: Not always good stock levels

I have ordered twice from CCL Computing now - and both have been very good experiences.

The first time was 21st May 2005 when I ordered a Canon Pixma iP3000 printer. Their web site was well laid out and easy to navigate and showed the printer in stock. I registered and ordered the printer within 10-15 mins for the whole process.

I received an email within minutes acknowledging the order and that the payment method ( Mastercard ) was being verified and approved.

A day later I received an email stating first time orders had to be delivered to the cardholders address ( I tried to get delivery to my works address for ease of delivery, even though it did state on the web site that this was not possible ). Although slightly inconvenient I was, none the less, still impressed that they do actually check the card holders details and are actively trying to cut down on fraud.

The email stated that I could either reply to the emial or give customer services a call. I telephoned them and they picked up after about five rings - no queue messaging, or "pick a number" systems ( not bad for customer services - or maybe I was just lucky ? ). The person on the other end sorted the details very quickly and said the order would be rechecked and sent as soon as possible.

I received another email the same day to say that the order had been processed and that the payment had been approved and I would receive confirmation when the order was dispatched.

Half an hour later another email, complete with tracking number ( Citylink ) and a copy of the invoice attached as an rtf ( Rich Text Format ) file.

The goods were delivered the following day and were well ( very well ) packaged.


The second order was for a Hyundai B91D 19" LCD Monitor. Having looked through several websites, there were a few retailers selling these, but all showed zero stock. The following Saturday morning I checked the CCL site again and they showed 8 ( I think ) in stock. I logged on and ordered there and then.

Within seconds an email arrived showing order acknowledgment and that payment was being approved. Six (6) mintues later another email showing that the payment had been approved.

I then received an email on the Monday stating that the order had been dispatched and gave a Citylink tracking number again. Further to this, I also received a txt msg to my mobile showing the item had been dispatched. Delivery took place the following day, to my works address this time.

CCL have impressed me both times with their ease of use, order tracing process ( acknowledgment, confirmation, dispatch, etc ) and the speed of the turn around from order to dispatch.

The prices also compare very favourably with the competition. You can get the goods cheaper, but not by much, and the comfortable feeling they give is worth the extra anyway.

The delivery options are good - ranging from basic courier to next day, am or pm delivery - depending on what you want to pay. It is worth noting that on both accasions I simply choose the basic option and still had the goods within a couple of days.

Will definately be using CCL again for future orders.
