Advantages: cheap, friendly staff
Disadvantages: small selection, no email contact worth speaking of
As a person who uses computers everyday, at work and at home, I’m always looking to keep my computer as close to cutting edge as I can. Obviously, when doing so, I want to best quality I can get without spending the money. I have found that shopping online can save you a lot of money, especially if you are buying a lot of components, or one or two of the more expensive items. Over the past few years, I’ve been buying from the website of CCL Computers in Bradford, amongst others. I know that it’s only recently that people have started buying over the internet in earnest, and for the first while that it was possible, people were very concerned about handing out their credit card details. Well, I have to say that the treatment I’ve received off CCL Computers has been excellent so far. They have an easy to navigate web site with plenty of information on the equipment they sell. The price list is set out in a nice table format with links to each category, and sub pages with details on most items, giving you all the information you should need. Their prices are amongst the cheapest I have seen on the internet, and even though they charge postage (some places don’t for web orders), their lower prices help offset this. You can also download a zipped version of the price list so you can browse at your own convenience. Delivery is by Citylink couriers, who have been very helpful when asking for deliveries to alternate addresses. I have only two problems with CCL – never ever email them. You’ll rarely get a reply from anyone there, which is very strange because if you phone them, they’ll bend over backwards to help! I've never used their online ordering system, and use the web site to browse and then phone my order through. The other problem is the small range of goods that they offer, and the lack of a stock level indicator on the web site. Apart from this, I have no hesi
tation in recommending this company for buying computer components or peripherals. If you use common sense, and phone them first to check stock levels, and get a quote from them, then if anything should go wrong (which never has in my experience), you should be covered. ============================================= Update ============================================= Recently, CCL have undergone a redesign of the web site to tie in with their move to nice new premises. To be honest, apart from a colour change from red to blue, the web site hasn't changed that muhc, at least in terms of ease of use. There are some nice shiny new "buttonS" for links, but overall still the same.

hocaloogie - 26/03/02 One more thing: They did write back to me via email, even though it was lies.
They make you feel as if they are bending over backwards on the phone when in reality they seem to be doing **** all/ nothing.
I should know, I have been phoning them every week (and every day for the last 4 days). |
