Advantages: Good value for high quality RAM, Fast & compatibile, Good online ordering service

Disadvantages: Not the cheapest RAM out there

After I brought a new motherboard earlier this year, I thought I could manage with the memory from my previous PC. Technically it was fine (generic PC133 memory), but after getting plenty of odd lockups and reading the newsgroups, it seemed the memory was at fault.

When I was looking for new memory, I decided to avoid cheap generic RAM and get some decent stuff. I considered Kingston, but they were expensive; lots of people on the newsgroups were recommending Crucial as a good, yet cheap supplier. When I went to their web site, I was pleasantly surprised - although their RAM is not the cheapest, I was still able to get 512MB of CAS 2 PC133 RAM for under 90 pounds - good value for decent quality RAM. It helped that I knew exactly what sort of RAM I wanted, but for those that don't, their web site guides you through the process of asking what kind of PC you have, and advises you as appropriate.

I had no problems ordering and paying by Switch (some other sites such as Odeon say my card number is invalid, when it isn't), and the memory was delivered by courier next day. Unlike the cheap RAM I brought from Dabs, each DIMM was in a sealed box, well wrapped in an antistatic covering, and with a detailed instruction pamphlet.

Overclockers have reported a good success rate with Crucial RAM, too, meaning it's ideal if you want to squeeze a few extra MHz out of your system - and for non-overclockers, it's amongst the best RAM out there. With memory so cheap at the moment, I'd say it's worth spending that little bit extra to buy Crucial RAM if you can.
