I have recently purchased a Dell 2400 Poweredge server as part of an order with half a dozen PC's for a workgroup.

Quite mystifyingly, each time I called Dell, I was given a very different quote for the order, each time less than the last!

The server is a 733Mhz single processor supplied without monitor.

I was most impressed with the extra components I was able to achieve for the cost (£3300 excluding VAT).

As well as the basic unit, Dell supplied a RAID Controller with 4 hotswappable 9Gb Hard disks (18Gb storage RAID 5 with a spare). There is space for 2 more in the server for future expansion.

Backup is provided via a DLT tape drive.

Memory supplied was 128Mb Ram, which I have had to upgrade to 256Mb.

As a low end server for a small workgroup I thought this provided excellent value for money. I have only had to call the technical support on one occasion and the technician spent over an hour on the phone to try to resolve the issue, which he finally did.
