Advantages: Robust and reliable, Great technical support, Customise the PC to your own spec.
Disadvantages: Slightly more expensive
When I bought my computer I was a total novice but I wanted to make sure I bought something that would do all the things I wanted it to and other stuff I hadn't yet thought of. I also wanted something that would last physically and technologically. As my workplace is stacked full of Dell computers that get a real hammering I thought they'd be a safe bet. Most importantly, as a technophobe I wanted good CUSTOMER SUPPORT. Dell gave me all of the above. You get a comprehensive list of what they sell by looking at their website, then you can customise basic packages with any extras you might need. Best of all, if you pick up the phone and chat to one of their representatives, they'll give you honest advice on what product and extras would suit your needs best. The customer support is second to none. I phoned them countless times about things that turned out to be me being stupid. On the rare occasions I had any problems that needed further investigation they'd send an engineer to my house within 24 hours (or at a more convenient time if required). They do this for the first year, then for the next 2 years they'll collect and return your PC within 5 days if it needs fixing. I believe that the most important part of buying a computer is the after-sales support and Dell's is brilliant! Dell are slightly more expensive than average but you certainly get what you pay for.
