Advantages: nothing
Disadvantages: they "lie" about the real status fo your order, they NEVER call you back even though promise to, they deduct ££ from your card even for cancelled orders
Please if you ever consider buying a PC from 1 to a zillion do not put yourself through the incompetence, fabrication and inaccuracy that is Dell. Get yourself down to your local PC World or independent supplier you can find in the yellow pages. You will get a PC then and there, get it installed acurately and only pay for PCs that you actually buy. The tale below had to end with me taking on a firm of lawyers to get Dell to actually first not only take an order and then not deliver it for a month - to then cancelling it - to then being charged £4300 on my card for the cancelled PC - to then not being able to get a credit for the charge after 10 phone calls and even once I instructed Lawyers it took them 3 weeks - and then when they did credit the amount was WRONG .. and the legal battle continues.... I set up a new business and ordered PCs making the biggest mistake EVER going to Dell (went to Hell instead!) The ordering process was a nightmare. The internet service crashed and eventually I had to call them as the system after specing it made me call. I then had to talk through the whole spec again. Then the troubles really started: - they consistently fabricated status of orders. Never returning calls. ONE MONTH later I was still waiting for a PC that was due "5 days from order" and they kept telling me it was in production - which I found out it was not. - the one Pc they did deliver (2 weks after the promised 5 days) and many calls. Some half wit screwed it up. The so called professional installer had no clue and I then had to myself re format hard dives etc - 10 calls it took to cancel the others... oh then suddenly a 10% discount was offered but as they had fabrciated delivery and I had employees unable to work I cancelled. - Of course Dell's incompetence continued after that as they charged me for the cancelled PCs ($4500) which after another 10 calls I had to instruct lawyers to
take action. They took weeks... and when Dell did credit the amoutn was wrong.... and more legal activity... By the way popped down to PC World had the PCs bought and installled in the time it took me on average to hold on to Dell on the phone waiting for service............. Do yourself a favour. NEVER use them unless you are wierd and get off on sloppy service and have all the time in the world to wait, and like paying for stuff you never get

- 20/09/02 Oh dear, you have had a bad time. For the last few years I have bought computers for my company. I usually buy Dell. I have never had any problems with delivery, and I have found their after-sales service to be excellent. You must have been very unlucky. |

And if you are starting up a busniess, get yourself a good secretary, because your typing/use of spell-checker leaves a lot to be desired). Angelou's experience is more the norm |
