Was influenced to write this review after reading the post of corm0 who it appears has had unfortunate dealings with Gladiator Computers. Without seeking to negate his experience I thought as a matter of balance I should also outline my experience because it has been wholly different.
Am not a techie. Was therefore a bit uncertain about buying a Pc on-line integrity of vendor, hassle and expense of returning it if faulty etc. Read all the mags and on-line reviews I could find and Gladiator seemed to come out well. Daughters boy friend is computer manager and he posted on the techie web sites and got very favourable noises about Gladiator.
Contacted them and got excellent advice. They recommended what would meet my needs and actually saved me money by advising against the overspecd machine I had thought I needed. The price was excellent for aT800 AMD Athlon XP 2500 nForce2 system with TV and teletext etc. They even loaded on all the software including all service packs.
Delivery was very rapid and because it was during the winter snows and the PC had to be delivered to Scotland they phoned regularly to keep me informed of when it would arrive.
The machine has worked perfectly except when a modem failed. That was replaced by return post. If I have had any query they have spent whatever time is necessary to talk me through the issue.
As I said, I dont want to any way make light of a bad experience someone else might have had, but hand on heart I would recommend Gladiator Computers to anyone.
I bought a NEC dvd writer in February of this year with Gladiator Computers, received it the next day all was fine until the dvd laser part of the writer "died",I informed Gladiator Computers by e-mail and was told to pay the postage (it had to be registered at a cost to me of £6.55p) to return the dvd writer for it to be "checked" to see if it was actually faulty,I had to e-mail them to ask if it had been "checked" they replied it was faulty, and they would be sending it to THE MANUFACTURER for it to be checked and for them to decide whether to repair or replace it.
I was not happy having to pay the postage to return faulty goods to the retailer (Gladiator Computer) when the goods were still under manufacturers warranty I contacted my local Trading Standards Department, explained the situation, they said Gladiator Computers were at fault,Isent them a recorded delivery letter explaining that they were wrong to charge me postage.
Gladiator Computers reply maintained that they had every right to expect me to pay the postage, as, if I had bought the dvd writer in the high street it would have cost me petrol to return it to the store, parking fees and my time and they (the High Street Store)wouldnt have reimbursed me.
As I'm writing this (October 12th.) they have had my dvd writer for two weeks and still no news, so........in conclusion I would not recommend this company to anyone.
Shopping on the net has its ups and downs, but every now and again you find a good site that you are happy to recommend and for me Gladiator Computers have impressed me with their service so much that I would be happy to recommend them, and since I feel so many web companies lack this quality of service I think its worth a mention. First up I would like to say that too many companies ignore their emails, I have found from other stores that emails either take several days to get answered, or more than likely are not answered at all. These guys at Gladiator got back to me within 2 hours with a few techie questions I had about compatability of the the products I was interested in. What was also nice was that it was a personal email, not one of these auto things, and it seemed to be written by someone who knew what they were talking about, that always helps. My second point is delivery, Ok they didn't have an online stock indication but the goods still managed to arrive next day, and considering I placed my order at 3PM I thought that was top form. I was very happy with my purchase, and have been back since to get a Liteon 16X DVD drive from them, although I have had no need for technical support as such (my items worked fine after install) I have phoned up to ask advice on CDRW's and was more than happy with what was on offer. Fair play to these guys for a good site and some quality service to back it up. Give them a try as compared to some of the other giant retailers out there I think that the price and the service will give you a pleasant surprise.
