Advantages: top spec system, good help, clear set up info
Disadvantages: expensive
'What a strange title for an opinion' I hear you musing to yourself as you sit at your keyboard trawling through all the various opinions available to you on this awesome site - well, you would be spot on! It is strange, only because I could not think of a more witty & snappy title. Aaanyway, this is waffle, ( and if one of my students did likewise I would mark them down instantly!) I have read a previous review on 'Hewlett Packard in General', which was not good. Neither were the comments generated by the opinion. However, I would like to give a different view, which will, I think, provide some balance, ( which is, after all, the raison d'etre for Dooyoo!). We took the plunge and purchased a relatively high spec PC from Hewlett Packard , ( A Hewlett Packard Pavilion 5900), which cost us the best part of £2200, complete with CD Rewriter, DVD, Epson scanner & printer)just prior to Christmas 2000. Although I use a PC on a daily basis at work, I must admit to being rather tense and nervous when the time came to get the new beast up & running. However, I was totally relieved by the clear instruction, the completeness of the required leads, cables etc, and the comprehensive set up guide given in the format of an easy to read poster. Since set up the PC has been almost trouble free, apart from when I could not get it to record sound, I rang the HP helpline, was talked through a simple diagnostic procedure by a pleasant, friendly guy, which did not solve the problem. The hard drive was thus picked up the very next day and returned two days later, ( all by courier, and all cost free), with the problem solved. I also had a minor difficulty on shutdown, which was readily resolved by an e.mail via the HP web-site, a comprehensive reply retuned in just one day. The whole family loves the PC, it copies CD's flawlessly, we use it for letters, work, digital photography print-offs, MP3, Games, the list goes on and on!
In summary, then, I am very happy to have bought from Hewlett Packard, and when the time comes to upgrade our system, or even to replace it, I shall definately look to them first.

- 10/06/01 I wonder, are you STILL happy with your PC? I suggest you read my own opinion (HELLO Staples, GOODBYE HP) then keep your fingers crossed in case a similar fate awaits you! Obviously, you made a valid comment and I am not criticising you at all. I wish you the best of luck (you may need it)! |
