Advantages: They pay me

Disadvantages: Everything.

I am a current employee of PC World and let me tell you it's a copmlete and utter rip-off, don't go there to buy ANYTHING!

First things first! Looking to go there to buy a new PC or Laptop? DONT! Although they are big brand names on offer, the after service is shit and the sales people know NOTHING! You may think they care about your PC needs but all there after is more money to add to there sales target (they don't work on commission there are pay 'bandings'). Even the employees claim this is shit and that they hardly make any money. If PC World don't care about their employees, do you think they care about you? The simple answer is yeah right!

Thinking of buying the warranty? (called PC Performance to make it sound more appealing). If you do, you are an idiot. Here are a few tricks the sales people use to rope you into buying PC Performace:

Just so you know it cost around £10 a month to cover a PC, it's a 'pay as you go' service.

If the salesman/woman are in the middle of a sale and you are declining PC Performance, They will offer you the first one or two months free and tell you to cancel it if you don't want it. This may sound alright but 9/10 people forget to cancel it and even forget they have it. they will be charged every month for the rest of thier lives if they don't! Furthermore if you set up the monthly payments by credit card, it is A LOT of hassell to cancel! The sales guys are on strict targets so do not trust them.

The sales-person will often NOT tell you that the monitor is not covered - it is a further 2 pounds a month to do so..waste! I've had my monitor for five years with no problemos, if I had taken PC Performace on it I would have paid 125£+, enough for a better one..

My brother works for DELL and all the DELL guys there laugh at PC World about how much of a joke it is! Buy direct from DELL you'll save a packet.

It's not just PC's that are a rip-off, the accessories are too, go to ebay to find cheap cartridges at less than a third of the price!

Now for the funny bit; USB CABLES!

Some printers cost 29.99£..not bad eh? But they don't inclue a USB cable! USB cables cost £14.99 in PC World! This is such a rip off considering one of the managers openly admitted ina team brif that it costs them 50 pence to buy! Again, go to ebay or somewhere where you can pick them up for a pound...

PC World and Dell are both squabbling little blobs of shit on the arsecheeck of humanity.

Fran kly any company that sells crippled PCs, without advising the customer, needs a kick in the balls. I've lost count at how many times I have had to tell a customer that their 'new' (read: six month old AKA relatively new) PC cannot take a graphics card upgrade.

Bigge st culprits: Dell. E-machines. Packard Bell. Note that since Dell only sell their own make, PC World is worse for selling other poeple's crap hardware. Cheap production line mentality pays off.

Recently PCW has dropped selling E-Machines as a brand. It might or might not have something to do with the E-machines 420 PCs all more or less going tits up simultaneously. Mostly PSU and motherboard blowouts. It's as if this big american brand (look it up, no BS) has some weird kill switch. Pure Arthur Miller stuff O_o.

Since now the biggest culprits are Doesn't Ever Last Long, and Knackered Hell - it's only a crap choice between what after sales mis-service you require. Since both are a con because the machines are practically held together by shoelaces and chewing gum.

In short, PC World is a shit hole. But it's leading competitor is like comparing Hitler to Stalin. Both were big arseholes.

Go to a local shop. Usually you can custom order your PC. A lot of local places will include up to 3 years warranty with them, free of charge. Provided they stay afloat for that long, you have yourself a fully homegrown and hadnbuilt wee beastie. A lot better than your Dell McPC with McRAMCHIPS etc.

And could all of John Clare's sock puppets report back to him so you can like his ass?

Dell better i dont think soo!!
Dells cheapest PC without monitor £299 but have you ever called them and just asked for it by itself, you get hard sold saying it only comes with 3 months Return to base manufacturer gurantee, plus it was on watchdog that Dell even hang up if you dont take extra's. Their 3 year aftercare service which includes software and accidental is over £150 lump sum

PCWorld sell same spec for £290 which is £10 cheaper and has a whole year manufacturer gurantee included.. PCWorld aftercare is £3.99 a month which for the same 3 years is under £145 so taking the same specs machines from both companys and having the aftercare for 3 years PCWORLD is £20 cheaper

plus pcworld allow you to take home the PC that day, no 14 day delivery
their aftercare is repair in the home, no return to base
also includes upgrade install services and a MOT for the pc each year
you really think dell are that good? i dont think so!!

as a fellow employee of pc world i do agree it is a shit hole however i dont agree that dell is better i think the are equally shit in both the products they offer an customer service, especially those dell dimensions with no AGP slots in em wtf is that about? My advice to anyone who is thinkin of buyin from any huge pc retailer if it seems too good to be true it probably is, an dont get me started on that piece of shit they call an extended warrenty. Rather than buy a pc from any of these places i recomend buying a book on how to build your own pc, if more people where computer literate then places like PC world wouldnt exist an beleve me that would be a good thing.
