Advantages: So many stores
Disadvantages: So little advice or help
I decided to give PC World Business leasing a go, who trade under the name SmartPlan.
I took just the one notebook under a three year lease and found the store staff very friendly and helpful. The goods arrived as expected on schedule and as always no complaints - until something went wrong.
After just three months the laptop hard drive packed up and shortly after the computer got locked into a reboot cycle. I spoke with the local store who advised it was a hardware issue. No problem - the product is under MANUFACTURER waarranty. Hears the 0870 number - goodbye.
After 2 hours of ringing more than 6 different numbers I get through to HP support who promise to sent out the required parts. Two weeks pass and NOTHING. Called again and parts promised again. Still nothing. Ive since been back to the store but they say there is nothing they can do about it.
You would have thought that with a LEASED laptop, at £50 a month for 36 months. i.e. £1800 for a laptop worth £900, I might expect some BUSINESS SUPPORT SERVICE. HOW CAN BUSINESSES RUN WITHOUT THEIR PC'S???
Having given up on PC World (laptop in box, still paying £50 a month) I go out to BUY a replacement myself. For a laugh I went to a PC world store to see what they might offer. The girl supervising the laptop area knew nothing about them and had to keep taking the signs to her colleague asking for advice. Having sold me on a laptop she then advices that THEY HAVE NO LAPTOPS WHATSOEVER IN STOCK - go try another store.
THREE customers, including myself, went next door to CURRYS and we ALL bought our LAPTOPS WITH SERVICE from them. £1700 lost to PC World.
I then decided to go buy some anti-virus software. For a JOKE, I went to PC world. I found what I wanted along with a few other items however they charged £0.49 for the software (RRP £20). HA HA to PC World. Maybe I should go and buy another 100 of them.
HOW LONG BEFORE PC GO BUST. THEY ARE WHAT RATNERS WAS TO THEIR RESPECTIVE INDUSTRY THOSE MANY MOONS AGO.
Summary: Business leases through PC World - STAY AWAY!

- 23/06/06 again i hate un informed moaning. so i went into my helpful and friendly local pcworld and asked them about their policies. and here is what i found out
store staff dont have the parts to repair systems that day, nor to they have the time to repair them.
I have been in many queues waiting to get served so if i had to wait then trust me you trying to get it to repaired will take ages. days or weeks when they can fit it in
Calling the helpline means the manufacturer would come around within days, they dont send the part by itself they send the engineer to fit it. by the way they organise a day to come to your business or place of residence so maybe you not hear the time and was not home then, or said "forget it" or something.
the staff also mentioned that at the costs you are quoting with the laptop being only £900 and leaving another £900 for the leasing agreement. they said that the £900 is for the leasing and about £400 of extra's like software or a printer or somethin.. or possibly which they always add in anyways on the leasing a 3 year aftercare which is next business day inhome repair for mechanical accidental and software.
read through your paperwork you might have the aftercare
if so ring 08709014000 for the direct line to the repairers |

- 17/05/06 I bought a laptop off PC world six weeks ago and had nothing but trouble from day 1, brought it back and got fobbed off like you aswell with a number to call and came home with my hardly working laptop. Last week I came down stairs to find a smell of burning, the whole bottom of the laptop had overheated and melted and was completely destroyed, I cut out the middle man and got in touch with there head office and got a brand new laptop which is working great so get in touch with them and you might get some satisfaction. |
