Advantages: Convenient locations, Computers ready to take away

Disadvantages: Push Coverplan Insurance on purchases

I have purchased two computers, peripherals and assorted software from PC World over the last few years. I find its always the same experience. They usually let you wander around for a while before approaching you. After a while the cheesey salesman comes up to you with a fake grin and a cherpy do you need any help. If you know what you are looking for you are better off saying no thanks because otherwise they can start leading you around looking at stuff thats not exactly what you just described. Generally if you go at a weekend and its busy you can get away without being pestered. Only problem is then you can't seem to get anybody available if you do need help. I have found that there is usually a good selection of PC's and associated stuff in there. PC World is worth a visit even if you only want to use it to make a comparison to other places. If you try to compare the computers to Currys or Dixons you won't find much different as I think they are all part of the same retail group. I have bought from them in the past because they are convenient you can just buy a computer and take it away with you there and then. The prices are reasonable also, not the cheapest but reasonable. The only thing that puts me off is they always try to pester you into taking out their monthly Coverplan service by direct debit along with your purchase. The service plan for a PC with monitor would cost you £7.99 a month at the moment and unless you are a novice PC user I don't think its worth that much. I think they are targetted to sell this product and probably get a bonus for it. Other than that the place is OK.

Summary: OK if you know how to say no to the insurance and Know what you want.

I feel i cant add anymore to the last comment barring that bonus is based majorly on customer satisfaction, but there are still other factors that make it up, hitting certain targets in a month and so forth, but they change everytime, and is not based on individual performance.

a fact. i sell computers and the prices i get fromt he manufacurer are the same as PCWorld and parts like laptops batteries are the same prices i get that dell get it for..

some facts

A desktop PC retailing in PCWorld for £399 at this very moment makes £5..yes £5
a desktop PC retailing in PCWorld for £599 at this very moment makes £30 yes £30

Dell batteries purchasing separetly from their websire make £40 profit

dell make more profit from a single laptop battery the PC world make selling 8 PC's at £399 or 1.33 PC's at £599..

their wages are not on sales targets or insurance targets or even anything sales related.

i have a good rep' with my local store and so i get the inside gossip, both coz i own a computer shop myself and also because i visit them enough that it has built up a good relationship with them

their bonus is based on customer services.. they have a person in plain clothing that comes into store and rates them out of 100%.. on things like "did the advisor ask you atleast 2 questions to help find the right product for you" and other bits where they rate the store on appearance and friendlyness..

the company who do the surveys get a set payment per visit. so it is not in there benefit to tweek the scores to make them look good. because it dont give them any extra

the managing director of DSGI made a statement about how he wanted to improve standards instore.. and so thats what he has done.. he has removed comission completly and replaced it with a bonus which only pays out for over 75% satisfaction.

the guys instore are not on commision they dont ask you to pay £12-£100 to answer your queries about how to install stuff or anything about the products

the guys have knowledge of computers.. COMPUTERS.. there are millions and millions and millions of paripherals, devices, software and gadgets.. so dont expect them to know everything about evverything.. they are human.. just like you.. if you hate them because they dont give you the right answer and u decide to call them dumb, uneducated.. ever thought that by you asking the question you have less intelliagence??????

food for thought

i hate that england is classed as the most in debt country but because of you lot never being happy when u get free advise, never happy when a PC that makes only £5 profit breaks down and they WILL fix it for FREE but u cant wait the upto 28days to get it fixed... you want it free free free now now now.. stop complainging and grow up.. your attitudes are the cause of our countries debt!!
