Advantages: For you to decide...

Disadvantages: Again from you...

I am currently a part time PCworld employee. I'm studying for my master's degree in Electronic and Software Engineering (3rd year).

One thing i would like to mention is that no PC World staff receive commission. It's simply by the hour.

I'm Writing here as i would like to give insight into both the workings of PCWorld and how to get a 'good deal' from them.

First off, the price one sees when they enter the store is never the price that needs to be paid. One way round this is to take PC Performance at point of sale. If taken the staff member is able to discount off the first few month from the bill, say 6 months x £7.99 which is 47.94. So a laptop at £399 would cost £351.06 at point of sale, as you have taken the insurance. The key to this is the support and maintenance can be cancelled at any point in time. So you get home and one call cancels it.

Also if asked the staff will happily throw in a bag and give things like Norton / Kaspersky at half price. After all it's nothing to them.

The point to mentioning uni was that not all of us have no knowledge of PC's. Myself and other members within my store are more than proficient with things such as overcloking and network maintenance. As I and two others are certified cisco network engineers. So components of a machine are but childs play.

I hope this brief note maybe a help to some.

A NI PC World Employee

Summary: Just food for thought.

Fair enough, I used to work for them up until 3 weeks ago, but the people who do have talent and arn't stereotypical pc world morons are having their talents taken away by a company that is there to make as much money as possible. And with this 'milestones' b/s, and the amount of targets getting blown out of porportion, it is getting very hard to be a decent salesman that is willing to do a good deal. I couldn't use half of my knowledge because of the way I was trained to sell stuff. Retail is retail at the end of the day.
