Advantages: It's a shop

Disadvantages: Terrible staff training, terrible advice, overpricd, poor products

PC World, is, not surprisingly, a shop that sells a wide range of electronics and computer equipment. I say wide, but they don't always have what I want, or what I sometimes expect they'll have, so it becomes a bit of a guessing game sometimes.

PC Worlds are usually found in large stores in retail parks, which can make getting to them a bit of a trek.

The staff are a bit hit and miss in my experience - either you get asked by 50 million of them if you need help and they follow you around (or maybe I look like a shoplifter?), or you can't find anyone at all to help you. I have to admit I have stood in the returns queue and the customer service queue for about half an hour or so before. They seem to have a policy of one or two people on those areas, and then the other 49,999,998 are either trying to upsell something, on the empty cash desks, or wandering round aimlessly and trying to avoid you. I have no idea why this always seems to happen in my experience, it just does.

PC World is definitely a cold hearted business. Rather than genuinely doing the best for their customers or even pretending do, most of their services and products are based on what will make them money in terms of software and hardware - it must be, or why else would they recommend you buy such terrible and/or overpriced products, knowing there's a lot better out there? This is true of their recommended anti-virus software, cameras and ink cartridges, as well as routers.

They are also hideously overpriced compared to every other shop I think of. Buying online is so much cheaper, and even standard shops will sell things like games, blank discs and office accessories far cheaper - go online to save the most money.

Summary: Avoid

Generally speaking I agree...But they can be quite cheap for blank DVD's, and often have some outstanding bargains in their January sale...Ken

I did get my Sandisk Cruzer memory stick there recently at a very competitive price. That was definitely a first!
