Advantages: I honest can't think of one advantage.
Disadvantages: Horrendously expensive, poor selection, clueless/ignorant staff
A few weeks ago our laptop screen mysteriously broke (I'm blaming the cat) so after a call to my insurer a giftcard was on its way, fingers crossed it's not PC World vouchers they're sending however I was crushed to find the plastic rectangle of doom concealed within an envelope last tuesday.
So after work we go down to PC work and make straight for the laptops. I had £320 on this card - now 9 months ago I got a top spec HP G6000 laptop from Tesco for £329 - there were no laptops in that price range!!! There were netbooks, which are useless, for about £280 but the cheapest lappy was £400...400 pound sterling!!!! Scandalous.
Now I ended up buying the £400 HP G60 lappy as it was actually better specced than ones at £450, believe it or not I was struggling to find a computer that compared to the one I broke, I was disgusted. All the time I had some parasite buzzing about behind me waiting to snatch my money, very off putting.
Eventually when I settled on said HP I got the full speil about how I need to buy expensive anti-virus gubbins and new MS Office - even though I told him I already had it he was persistent in trying to flog me it anyway. Unfortunately for him I'm extremely tight fisted (there is a recession on afterall) but that didn't stop him spending 5 minutes trying to sign us up for some warranty at £8/month...I passed on that too after much talk of disasters and alien invasion etc (or at least that's what it felt like).
Because I wanted to recover files from the broken laptop I asked the lad if they sold HDD caddies and he had no idea what I was talking about, I explained it and he still looked confused so he just said "no"...do they sell anything PC related in PC World or is it all mousemats?
Finally I got hold of the laptop and was heading back to the car when I noticed a massive hole in box, he must've been holding away from me as I never say it earlier and I didn't want to take a chance since I refused armageddon insurance, so I went straight back in for a replacement. There were 2 girls on tills but no customers so 1 asked to other to look after the till and the respondant said no, NO...get me a new lappy you ignorant spawn of Satan, and off she goes and 5 minutes later I have an intact box.
Got to admit, this lappy is pretty good but if I had a choice of where to buy my next laptop I'd go to PC World last, grudgingly.
Summary: For all your PC needs go to Tesco :)
