As somebody who has worked in the IT business for about the last 14 years or so, I have had many dealings (and heard of many dealings) with pc world. PC world, along with Dixons and Currys, are owned by DSG International Plc. The group in its latest accounts recorded a loss of over £140 million, which I find so extraordinary when you bear in mind that between the three of them, they hold so much of the electronics market in the UK.

I have alawys found PC world extremely expensive compared to other retailers, especially with those online. I have bought components for computers which are readily available online at a massive 90% reduction of what PC world charge. Other components and cables I have bought have also been a fraction of the price. That is why I can't understand why they are losing so much money.

I bought two laptops from PC world last year. I use the laptops for work purposes as I am self employed. Sadly one had a fault within 16 months. The motherboard failed. Upon contacting PC World in store they were extremely unhelpful. Although I told them the fault, the Tech Guy said that it was unfortunate but there was little they could do. For them to even open my laptop they wanted to charge me £275. Obviously I was extremely unhappy about this and told them I would sue them, as I expected a motherboard to last longer.

After contacting Head Office they were much more helpful. They agreed that such a fault should not occur so soon, and advised that I get an independent report. If this proves what I say, they would refund the cost of the report and settle up with me. I obtained a report, which confirmed what I said, and they phoned me up and agreed a percentage refund (allowing for usage) and also a refund of the report costs. Within 24 hours I had a gift card to buy another laptop (which I added money to) from one of their stores. In this instance I bought it from Curry's.

In summing up I have always found that the Computers and Laptops are very reasonable in price. However I believe they use this to get customers instore to pay for other services and buy peripherals. However their choice is extensive, and I guess you pay that bit extra for the convenience.
