Advantages: Big compnay, many stores
Disadvantages: Rude staff, secondhand goods sold, after sales is poor
PC World are a huge computer company that sell Desk top computers, laptops, software, desks to chairs too.
I first bought myself to my local store, just over 8 miles away when a few years ago my laptop died on me out of the blue, I thought going to such a big company and brand that I could trust my needs in there hands, I was very wrong as I learned, fast!
After taking a trip to my local PC world and had a looked around I found some really fantastic deals on there desk top computers, so much so I snapped one up the following day, I paid around £350 which back a few years ago was a really good price, flat screen monitor and good RAM.
I found that while the guy that was selling it to me sent another guy in the store to get me the computer, he told me they would list it on the receipt as 'Sold as seen, returned goods'
I asked why, he said this would save me £10 off the price, for some reason.
I had no problem allowing it and no reason to doubt anything was wrong by doing this.
When they finally bought the box up with the hub in, it was dented and ripped, I requested another one which got me a nasty 'sigh'
However the sales guy said it was fine.
I found them very pushy to hurry me out of the store, saying any questions or problems to ring customer service.
I got the computer home and set it up, I could instantly tell there was something wrong, the keyboard had been used with the writing off some of it's keys!!
I however set it all up, it was working, to a fashion.
Everything was fine until a few days later after using the computer, I got the fatal blue screen, the computer had died on me, days old.
I rang the PC World store explaining to them the problem, the first guy said give me your name and details, which I did, he placed me on hold; 5 minutes later came back saying it was a 'Returned Unit' so all they could was repair it, not replace!!
HOWEVER they would need to send someone to me, that could take up to 5 weeks to come, keep in mind this was November time so wouldn't be able to E-mail any family and friends over Christmas.
I explained this what no good and requested a manager, after speaking to him explaining that I would involve Trading Standards he agreed for me to return the computer for a full refund, I drove back to the store with the computer and was refunded.
The guy that refunded me in store claimed that I should haven't have brought a second hand machine if I didn't what problems, what?!!
PC World are not selling second hand Recon computers surely?!
However it appears they are, I never knew mine was, I paid for a new one, I never got that.
I know two friends of mine who have had hell with PC world, the staff are as bad as the company, I honestly believe it's there job to sell to you and they get a profit of every sale.
I haven't ever stepped foot in any store since and never would, once was enough and I was lucky to get my money back.
There prices the past year or so haven't been great either from the adverts I've seen.
My advice is stay clear but that's my advice.
Summary: Rubbish!!
