Advantages: Look before you buy from a different shop

Disadvantages: Expensive, staff not trained

PC World has its good points, mainly that the parking is free and that you can look at a product before you buy it FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Don’t believe anything the staff tell you - in my experience they know very little about computers and have given me completely the wrong advice on several occasions.

On one occasion I was buying a laptop and I thought I would pop into PC World to look at the Toshiba range. I asked if there were any models that could output to a TV set for presentations. The sales person confidently explained to me that this was technically impossible and went on to explain why.

He was so confident (and used all sorts of technical jargon to back up his claims) that I almost started to believe him, although I had been using my trusty AJP for this very purpose for over two years!

However, I certainly recommend a visit if you are considering buying something mail order and you want to look at it first, or read the instruction book.

Remember, when a PC World sales person walks up to you and asks “can I help you?” do not say “I doubt it very much” out loud - just think it - you mustn’t hurt their feelings!
