Advantages: Lots of selection

Disadvantages: Bad price and Customer Service

PC World has an unrivalled distribution network in the UK, and it is unlikely that we'll see any kind of competition for computer superstores. Time Computers has recently got into financial difficulties with their plethora of high-street stores.

While it's heaven in a way for all us techies - being able to walk into a warehouse full of technology, it's not all that great if you're actually wanting to buy anything.

Prices are less than cheap - remember all the assistants work on commission, so don't let that annoying bloke accompany you when he goes "oh - let me help you with that printer you've already chosen and are almost at the checkout with".

Prices for peripherals and games etc are equally uncompetitive.

From my experience, the people who work in PC World rarely have technical experience beyond booting a computer up (with a few notable exceptions). They want the sale, so they'll convince you to buy anything that they can.

The range and customisability is poor at PC World - in general you're stuck with what they have in the box.

A couple of years ago I sent my PC in to have the soundcard that I'd bought there repaired, and they had it in for 2 weeks. It was only on the threat of legal action that they let us collect the PC and gave us credit for a new sound card which I had to install myself.

So if you must go to PC World, please just go to browse and buy hardware online at Dabs.com or at another cheaper place.
