Advantages: many
Disadvantages: website
From reading other opinions I know that some of you will disagree. PC World is one of the best computer suppliers around. I bought an Advent 8710 computer from my local PC World store and have not had a single problem in the 2 years I have had it. Though the Digital camera that came with the PC used up a lot of batteries, so we took it back to the shops who were glad to replace it for a new camera, no questions asked. I am glad I chose to shop with PC world. Many family members and friends have bought from such retailers as Time or Tiny and have had many problems occurring in just the first year. These PC suppliers are known for their rather poor quality of after sales care. Even though instore prices may be a few quid higher than competitors? on the high street or even online, you are paying for the extra peace of mind. However their website lets them down. Even though prices here are lower than instore the range of products is very small. A search for ?Scanners? brings up a pathetic FIVE items. If they updated their site and included more items then they could perhaps go head to head with the big boys, Amazon and Jungle.com The biggest advantage of shopping at PC World rather than some of the mail order companies to buy a computer is that you can take the items home with you the same day. Rather than waiting over a month for delivery and paying extortionate amounts in excess of £40 in some cases.

- 02/11/01 I disagree with your views about PCW. Perhaps your local sore is better than mine, but the staff are very ignorant. I purchased a Creative jukebox from PCW, which was faulty; when I took it back the "technical" department did not even know what is was, never mind being able to suggest what was wrong. If you want proper support, with good products, try a specialist supplier like Dell or Evesham micros for pcs.
Last time I went to PCW I just wanted a screw for my hard drive to fix it in the case- a standard size product. They did not stock them and the "help" desk would not spare me a single screw, even though I had an armful of other purchases from PWC. Now thats what I call good customer relations. |
