Advantages: None they're o bad
Disadvantages: They overcharge, You pay fpr crap packaging
Where in the world? Not PC world! That is what I think the mot should be changed to, as it is more true then their own. Their little statemnet in the adverts on the TV constantly is 'we're stamping down on prices' but what do you know they're not. It's a con, take this as an example a Microsoft Sidewinder gamepad Pro, which is not very good in any case (read my review) was priced at £29.99, you'd think that this is a reasonable price but no it's not the rrp is only £24.99. So some person sitting at PC world is trying to rip you off five squid. I knew the rrp as I checked out the price before I went to get it, so I crossed the road and up the high street and popped into Electronic Boutique to get some games, but there it was I stood there amazed to see the £24.99 sign. Only about a five minute walk and I wiped off a fiver. You'd think that PC world might think about checking the prices of other stores to be competitive but no they prefer to sit around on their asses all day trying to get an extra fiver. Some of you maybe going there I had the same experience and some of you are thinking it's probably a one off, but I tell you it's not. I went back there a year later after not learning my lesson and looked for 64mb of memory. I found the package that cost my £18.99 but the box was about five times bigger than the memory itself so I wondeed if I was paying for the packaging. I took it home and inserted it into my computer but so hear you saying, well that night I thought that I browse around the internet for some prices on memory and the first place I went to was the watford electronics website. I checked out the price for the memory and 64mb only cost £6.99. Think of that I was so shocked, I could have bought a total of around 192mb of memory with the money I spent at PC world for a small 64mb of memory. So the next morning I took the memory out of my computer and took it to PC world to get a refund and they happ
ily agreed and asked me for a reason. The reason I gave was you charge to much and the cashier goes oh, and then I go around the corner you can get more than a tenner of your products. There was no comment after that. I took my money around the corner to watford electronics and asked for the memory but then they said 'do you want 128mb instead it only costs £10.99', I replied as if I was shocked really? They said yes and I paid for this and began a discussion with the cashier asking them about PC world and I then asked them if they knew how much they were charging for their 128mb memory. They told me they charged £25.99, well they could have been lying but it was true as I checked it on their website. What are they doing overcharging people by so much surely evryone should no about this and then the world would be a much cheaper place to live. So the moral of the stroy is that you must not ever shop at PC world or you will be so ripped off.

- 04/10/04 1. There is a price promise in place at PC World (not for web sites)
2. You cannot compair prices in stores to prices on the web, web prices are always going to be cheaper as they don't have the overheads that stores do (ie wages, utility bills etc...)
3. There is a place to return to if there are problems, it's not that easy on the web.
4. The staff are fantastic to deal with, knowledgable, approachable and friendly. There is a technical Advice and Service department for technical queries. Why would you expect a sales person or cashier to know everything. When I buy a car, I don't expect the sales person there to know every little engine detail, but at least PC World has somewhere you can actaully go to for help and advice.
5. The prices aren't even that bad, especially on PC's. It's pretty much something to boast that I can pick up a laptop there for less than £400. Bet Dell couldn't even produce that!
This is always the same when a company becomes this big and sucessful. Suddenly it becomes public enemy number one. Maybe you should all get your facts straight before sounding off about something you clearly know very little about!!!!

- 05/08/02 Don't they have some kind of price promise thingy going?? I've a feeling they do, check it out as you might find that if you find it elsewhere cheaper they'll give you the difference plus a little bit back. V. |

- 05/08/02 PC World is known for this kind of thing. Good op, although perhaps more paragraph breaks would make it easier on the eye |
