Read this and save your self the horror of what happened to me and my family. Avoid PC World!!

********************************************** ***************************
We wish to register a complaint.
Here is the background to what led us to become unhappy with PC World Manchester.

On 26/02/00 I bought a PC for my family from PC World Stretford.

We bought the following model:
ADVENT
3053
Pentium III 533MHz
32MB AGP Graphics Card*

When we took our new Advent computer home, and switched on all we got was a blue screen which we were unable to get out of.

We took the PC back and the technician tested it and found a fault.
The salesman told us he would give us a machine that was like-for-like in exchange for the faulty Advent.

*My brother advised me to get an AGP machine, and it is for this reason we bought the Advent model.

The relevance of having an AGP slot is explained below.

As I had no idea at the time, what an AGP was, but I completely trusted this salesman to do the right thing.

Saturday 27th Sept 03.

My son wanted to play Jedi Academy, so it is for this reason we took our Packard Bell unit to PC World Stretford for an upgrade, (AGP graphics card and RAM)

We took an AGP card off the shelf to the technician (Hayel) but he informed us that there were a few problems:
1. There was no APG slot in the Packard Bell.
2. The Packard Bell unit was not covered by the service agreement, as it was never transferred over. (SEE SERVICE MANAGERS MEMO ? MR ANDY WHALLEY)

We were obviously shocked that we had been duped into accepting a lower grade product, and this is further demonstrated by the fact the Packard Bell unit would not even accept a PCI graphics card *
? *The technicians report ? it reads ?PC WILL NOT TAKE A NEW GRAPHICS CARD CANNOT UPGRADE FAULT CODE E?
? The Packard Bell 9533 model t
hat we were duped into accepting by smooth talking salesman, ONLY HAS 4MB on-board graphics!
? The original Advent had 16MB AGP card that WOULD have been upgradeable to a modern 64MB!!
? My son is bitterly disappointed at not being able to play this game.
? I hold PC World responsible, but there is still time to rectify this and restore our shattered confidence in PC World
? Assurances of upgradeability are clearly false on this unit.
? We bought PC for £999.00
? We spent another £325.00 on a cover plan for upgrade purposes.
? To Summarise: We bought Advent 3053 model, which did not work, and we were duped into accepting a lower grade product, which is NOT UPGRADEABLE.
? See the spec below for JK3: Academy
? System: 450 MHz CPU or equivalent
? RAM: 128 MB RAM
? CD-ROM: 4X CD-ROM
? Video Memory: 32 MB VRAM
? DirectX: DirectX v9.0

? Of course it would be unreasonable to take this matter further without giving PC World a chance to respond at Head Office Level.
? At branch level we have gone through the protocol, allowed any managers we could talk to the opportunity to correct the problems, but they felt they were unable to do so without agreement from Head Office.

nice op. i agree, id never buy a pc from pc world. the spec is crap and overpriced, and often faulty. my advice is to get your money back and spend 1200 quid on a decent model. i got my 2800+ amd processor, 1.5 GIG of RAM and 256MB graphics all for 900 quid from ebay. definately work a look (CS Systems) Andy.

What an awful service. I don't have one near me. Just as well.

Oh dear, I appear to be the only person who got a good deal at PC World!
