Utter rubbish (PC World)

Advantages: Have a large range of products

Disadvantages: Products never work, terrible staff, very expensive

I went to PCWorld a while back, to buy a modem for my computer, I knew about most things to do with modems, but I couldn't figure out what the difference was between 2 external modems, they both had nearly the same specs but the price difference was £50!. After walking around the shop for 20 minutes looking for an assistant, all of them that were there kept on ignoring me. In the end, I got one, so I asked him, which modem should I get, and what was the difference here is the answer I gleamed from him:

"They get you on the internet" - I knew this I replied
I said " so what is the difference"
"Not sure" he said
I then remarked that for £50 extra, there should be, so what would he reccommend I do.
he said "got the more expensive one" when I asked why, he said "it's bound to be better" - he did not elaborate on this statement.

So I went to ask their technical desk which one I should get, the girl on the desk said, get a 56k one. I said I knew this but I was having difficulty understanding the different standards i.e Kflex, V90 etc She looked at me as if I was daft, and said just get any if you don't like it bring it back. This was said in a tone, that made me feel as if I was unduly hassling them.

So in the end I stormed to the sales desk at the back of the shop and demanded the address for head office, to which she replied, "who's head office, do you want?". I explained that I thought it was obvious, whose I wanted.

I have vowed never to shop there again, my friend bought a PC from there a few weeks back, and it broke within a week. After I hassled them, they agreed to replace it, but I still wouldn't get anything from them ever again.

In the end I got my modem from a shop called 'Game' in Chester. The sales assistants there actually reccommended I save myself money and buy the cheapest V90 flash upgradable one I c
ould. Already this was better info than I got from the idiots at PCWorld. Even when I expressed an interest in a costlier modem, I was told it would be a waste of money.

If you need any computer stuff, I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend Game, they are an excellent shop.
