Advantages: Very Cheap, Quality Product, Service

Disadvantages: no credit card facility, Don't have a massive range of PCs, No PDAs

Whilst surfing the net (google) I came across a link to Student Computers UK. Being a skint, money saving student I wanted to save as much money as I could. Although I don't have much money left for luxuries, I considered a computer to be one of the few essentials for University life so wanted high spec at a low price.

These guys seem to know their stuff. They have a fairly limited range - about 6 different PC's and maybe 10 laptops. However all the models they offer are sensible and don't contain loads of unnecessary bits and pieces which just put the price up. Using the upgrade options you should be able to get just about anything you want.

Price-wise, these computers were so cheap I was a little skeptical. One problem I did encounter is that they could not take credit cards. The chap I spoke to said this had something to do with preventing fraud and it being difficult to verify the student address as they are frequently changed - or something along those lines.

I wanted to cover myself so I paid with a Barclaycard credit card Cheque.

I didn't receive any hard sell and no one tried to sell me something, which I didn't need. This is in stark contrast to some of the so-called advice that I'd received from another well-known PC supplier whom I won't mention. These guys seemed to make a genuine effort to find out what I wanted and needed and then give the best advice they could base on this.

I was notified during the various stages of production and also called the day before my PC was due to be sent out to check my delivery address and that the delivery day was convenient for me. I was also called once to re-arrange the delivery date and put it back a day - one of my upgrades was out of stock. I was a bit miffed but at least they kept me in the picture.

When the machine turned up I was relieved to discover that computer was every bit as good as I hoped it would be and was also very wel
l packaged. There was no instruction manual but to be honest I didn't need it and within 5 minutes I was up and running. They also chucked in some extra CDRW disks and a Surge Protector to make up for putting the delivery date back a day, which I was pretty chuffed with.

I had a problem swapping over my modem settings from Freeserve and rang student computers UK. I got straight through to Tech Support and they fixed the problem within about two minutes!

I also received a call from student computers some time in the future asking if I was happy with the computer and if I had had any problems since the modem

I would definitely recommend these guys. Their deals are great and they seem to be able to back them up with some informal, but decent customer service.
