You may think that the title of this opinion is a little harsh. Well no, im afraid this is the truth! I am more qualified to comment than most! I worked as a self employed computer engineer for just over 12 months and had endless calls from time and tiny customers who had porblems and were out of warranty or more commonly just couldnt get through to tech support! Anyway, I was struggling to get work in and eventually resorted to offering my services as a contractor to a few local agancies! Imagine my disgust when they send me to TIME TECHNOLOGY PARK, burnley! Time as I am sure you are aware have bought the tiny name! I worked for almost 2 weeks in the appauling repairs department! This department (in my humble opinion) is run by monkeys & manned by chimps. These people are not qualified, guessing at faults, running poor post rectification test procedures.

Often I would look at a faulty unit and be told, "if there may be 2 faulty components, dont waste time troubleshooting it just replace them both as the customer is paying!" It was also standard practice to reload windows for all but the most simple faults, this of course was again charged to the customer when 9 times out of 10 was not neccesary!

I was also offered a job in technical support! What a joke! The customer service team and the tech team are the same people, they just answer the phone differently depending upon which button you press in the menu when calling! However, these people do get trained prior to starting work. 2 weeks in a class room is hardly a sustitute for experience though is it??

Now, about the actual computers. Tiny and Time use small cases. This may look attractive but is no longer a sensible option. They use 135w power supply units for athlon machines. Athlon themselves recommend no less than 300w. Most machines may look impressive when you read the specs but they nearly all come with onboard graphics and sound. The long and the short o
f it is, what you get is a thrown together, badly planned collection of non upgradable rubbish! The best bet is to visit a small local retailer and ask about upgrade options for the future!

Heh, don't pull any punches - tell it like it is ;-). Time and Tiny together eh - it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch! Like you, I can't stand the concept of inbuilt graphics and sound chipsets - if just one thing goes wrong your whole m/b is up the creek. Give me generic bog-standard parts any day! I must admit, I've dabbled a bit myself in repairing other people's machines - usually stranded Escom customers (remember them?) Chris
