Tesco Value HM06
by northernlovely When my previous hand mixer blew up, I was resorted to using a hand held balloon whisk for cakes and cream and so on. Quite a workout, and I never felt that my cakes were rising as much as they did when I 'went electric' so when my hubby was popping to Tesco and asked me what I wanted, I asked him to pick me up a cheap mixer, knowing ... they were about five or six pounds. My husband duly came back an hour later and presented me with a small white box with lettering in blue on it 'Tesco Everyday Essentials Hand Mixer'. Now, Everyday Essentials is their rebranding of Value, you'll see that most of their foods have changed over to the new branding now, and it's the turn of the electricals and other non foods. He said it was only £4.88 which I was amazed at! The Tesco Everyday Essentials Hand Mixer, as it's now called, came inside the box in a plastic bag, with two smallish but still well sized for my needs whisking heads, a long white cord with a fused plug, and a small instructional leaflet. Not that I really needed the leaflet, it's a doddle to use. The Tesco Everyday Essentials Hand Mixer itself is a small hand held mixer styled in white plastic. All you need to do is take the whisks, click them into place by pushing them into their respective holes (a small bump in the shaft of the whisks holds them in place) and then you're good to go. The mixer has 5 speed settings, I whipped up some cakes with it set to only 3, 5 is mega fast, great for getting air into a meringue or whipping up some cream! But for our cake batter, 3 was quite adequate. I was amazed at how sturdy the Tesco Everyday Essentials Hand Mixer feels not only generally but in use, and it certainly feels like it cost much more than it's just under a fiver price tag. I've used it for cake batter, mixing ice cream and fruit together and also for cream and whipped desserts. My husband swears by using it for his Yorkshire Pudding batter as it gets them light and airy and they puff up and touch the top of the oven! Overall I am so pleased with the Tesco Everyday Essentials Hand Mixer and glad we didn't think anything of the label or price tag and go more expensive, because this fits our needs really well for a low price. I haven't tried too many 'cheaper' electricals other than an iron and a hand blender but I will be sure to try some more now as I've never had a problem with any of them, this hand blender included, in fact I've been very impressed. A five star out of five rating from me and a big recommendation that if you need an everyday hand blender for home cooking and baking, then you could do a lot worse than this for a lot more cost! by ally_kats_mama I use my whisks alot as I am constantly baking. I also tend to use an electric whisk for mashing my potatoes as it makes it alot creamier and fluffy. About three months ago, my beloved whisk shot a flame out of it and ceased to work. After the shock I needed a whisk quickly as I was in the middle of a marathon baking session. Luckily for ... me, my Mum was in Tesco and saw their Tesco Value one and picked it up for me. It came in the standard Tesco Value box - plain with the Tesco Value logo and a picture of the whisk on the front. The whisk itself was wrapped in plastic and with the instructions tucked in the side. The whisk is made of solid plastic and is white. It has a handle to hold on to whilst whisking with the speed setting just above the handle. I like where this is positioned as it is easier to switch between speeds whilst whisking. It comes with two whisk attachments which easily connect into the main body of the whisk by simply slotting them in until you hear them click. There is a button on the top of the whisk which press to release the attachments when you need to clean them. There are 5 different speed settings which are 1-5, one being the slowest. Ths whisk is very quick, even on the lowest setting. I use it for baking and for potatoes and have found that even on the lowest setting the whisk still flicks bits of cake batter or potato out of the mixing bowl. I still use the same mixing bowl I used with my old whisk and never had this problem. It is a little annoying. The other problem with the whisk is the cord is so short! It really makes it difficult to move around with. It also limits where you can plug it in. I am unsure why Tesco would cut the cord so short. I understand it is a Value product but the length of the cord is absolutely crazy! All in all the whisk is okay. I preferred my old one to this one as the cord was longer and it didn't spray food out of the bowl when I am whisking! This set me back £4.97 from Tesco. Read the complete review |

by lorrainek858 I like to do quite a bit of baking in my spare time and bought this hand mixer from Tesco because my sister had recommended it to me when I was looking for a hand mixer to bake a cake for my fiancé on his birthday. This hand mixer comes with two different attachments, they are chrome dough hooks and also a pair of beaters. The ... different attachments are easily attached and detached from the hand mixer which makes them easier to clean. There are 5 different speeds on this hand mixer, this is great as sometimes you need to fold ingredients together slowly and the slower speeds are needed in these occasions, but also sometimes it can be much quicker to use a fast speed such as when your are whipping cream. It is good to have a variety of speeds on your hand mixer so then you can cook a variety of different dishes with this mixer. This hand mixer is quite comfortable to hold and it is definitely much more comfortable than mixing manually, the handle is easy to grip and this makes mixing with this much easier. It is quite light and this makes it much easier to hold it when you are mixing ingredients for a longer period of time. I have owned this hand mixer for just over a year and it is still going strong, I would say without a doubt that it is good quality and would recommend it to anyone who likes to do a little baking in the house and needs a cheap, good quality hand mixer. One little negative point I have about this hand mixer is that the cord is very short, this means I cannot plug it in and use it on my kitchen table as it does not reach. You can buy this hand mixer for just under £10 in Tesco, I think that this is a fantastic price and if like me, you are only planning on doing simple baking, then you will find this hand mixer should suit your needs. It definitely gets the job done for me. Overall I think that this is a great hand mixer, it is basic and cheap and it gets the job done, overall I would give this product 5 out of 5 stars. *also on ciao under lorrainek90 Read the complete review |
