Advantages: Mixers well
Disadvantages: ugly plastic base
I wanted to get a mixer when I decided to try my hand at baking. I nipped to Argos and managed to pick up the "Argos Value Range Electric Hand Mixer" for a bargain price of £4.99.
I took the mixer home and took it out of it box. It was had a cheap look about it (what do you expect for £4.99). The mixer had a white plastic main frame. This frame was shaped into a handle and also contained the motor. The motor whizzed around with a 150 watt speed. What was good about the mixer was the speed dial on the top. On the dial there were five different speed settings. These are great as the mixer can be used for all kinds of mixtures, batters and sauces.
At the end of the main frame sticks out two metallic whisk like beaters. These shiny prongs are explained on the box to be used to whip and mix. They are sturdy and strong and make light work of the cake mixtures I use them for.
On the top of the main body is a switch. Pressing this allows the beaters to be released. This makes them easy to clean and safe to put in a dishwasher. The main base is electrical but easy to wipe down with a damp cloth.
The mixer is simple to use. Simply plug into the mains and choose you speed and you're away. The machine weighs under a kilo so is easy to move around and use for lengthy periods of time.
I have owned this for over a use and it still mixers as well as ever and does not seem to be slowing down. Also there is no sign of rust on the beaters.
For under a fiver this is a great addition to my kitchen. Although my passion for baking never really took off I am happy with the purchase.
Summary: A good cheap mixer
