I've always enjoyed cooking and since revamping my kitchen I enjoy spending a lot of my free time in there. I enjoy cooking most things but I have a real passion for cakes, probably enjoy eating them a little too much too. I recently received some shopping vouchers for my birthday so I decided id purchase a new hand mixer, as during the decorating period I managed to misplace one of my beaters and trying to mix cakes with one was proving very difficult.
What made me choose this model?
There are many different types of hand mixers on the market ranging from the very simple supermarkets own branded products to one like this which I think is quite professional. If anyone has read my other reviews they will remember me mentioning the colour scheme of my kitchen was cream and grey. All other mixers i have seen have been plain white so this one really stuck out to me. This is manufactured by Russell Hobbs which I am a huge fan of, I really rate his products so I thought buying this one was a safe bet. The look of this mixer is a lot different to what I've seen before, it looks very up market and professional.
Compared to other mixers on the market this to me did seem quite expensive. I believe I purchased mine for around £35.00 but I did have a couple of vouchers which is why I didn't mind paying that little bit more than I probably would of done. I'm sure you will be able to find this a little cheaper but shopping around, but I could only use my vouchers for certain shops so I was somewhat limited. Like I said this does seem a little expensive when you can get a basic mixer for about £15

A little bit about the product
This mixer comes with dough hooks and beaters, and these are easily removed by pressing the eject button on the handle. Iv found these very easy to clean, and there are also dishwasher safe I should mention. This has a brushed stainless steel look, which fits right in with the style of my kitchen, and looks much more stylish than your average mixer. The brand name 'Russell Hobbs' is etched into the side of the mixer, which I think looks very smart. The base of this is quite wide allowing it to stand unaided, which is very practical when trying to do a lot of jobs at once. Also this makes it very easy to store up in a cupboard.
This mixer has 6 different speed settings plus turbo, my last one only had 4 but most models iv seen normally have 5. So this also makes it stand out from others out there. You can easily turn the speed up using the arrowed buttons on the handle of the mixer. Your speed controls are shown on a very nice blue LCD screen, I've not seen such a screen on these types of machines before but I think its a great addition and makes it look very professional. This is also equipped with a timer which is also shown on the screen.
I find this product very quick and easy to use. It takes no time setting up at all simply plug the required beaters in, plug into a socket and your away. The 6 speed setting make light work of my cake making, this mixer is a lot faster than my old one and does it in a lot less time. I like the overall design and the addition of the LCD screen. I had not made bread before purchasing this product and to be honest I was unsure how to dough hooks would work out. I was very pleasantly surprised I thought it was abit slow at first but putting it on a higher setting and it was easy work. I was also worried the dough mix would cling to the beaters but like previously mentioned these were very easy to clean.
I was very pleased with the design of this product when purchased, however I did believe this was chrome, but upon taking it out its just chrome effect plastic. I think that I paid a relatively high price for this so was expecting slightly higher quality. Another niggle I have with this is that its quite heavy to hold. I'm only small in stature so this may just be down to that, but when mixing things like dough which take a little bit of time, it can begin to ache my arms quite a lot.
I would give this a 4 out of 5. A huge step up from my previous mixer, which now seems very old fashioned compared to this high tech mixer.
