When I decided to treat my partner to the new Ipad 3 back in March, I thought if I am going to spend £400 on it I might as well spend an extra £35 and buy the smart cover to protect it. When I received it I looked at it twice; this is because for some strange reason I thought and expected that the cover would at least protect the whole of the Ipad not just the screen!!! So I was disappointed because if I am going to protect the Ipad, especially as it is not always kept in the house but travels around a lot, surely it needs a back cover too! Apple should make it clearer in their description that this cover is only a screen cover! If I had known this, there is no away I would have spent all that money on it, but bought something more adequate and probably a lot cheaper too. I ended up buying a separate back cover for it on Ebay (cost me about £7 I think), which stays on all the time, the smart cover only goes on when the Ipad is travelling as when it is getting used at home, we find the smart cover to get in the way, flapping about! Personally, I would not recommend this product to anyone as I think it is far too overpriced for what it is and there are other similar products out there for half the price!
