Now this is an apple product which has been well thought through and is a perfect demomstration that developing cases whilst your developing your product is the only way to make them as good as they can be. The idea behind these smart covers is that it is pointless striving to make a product as thin and attractive as possible, just to encase it in some think, unsightly hunk of plastic. Therefore this smart cover is one very thin layer of either plastic or leather, dependent on how much your willing to spend, that protects just the screen and leaves the back uncovered.

The success of this product is in the design. It has been exceedingly well thought through and perfectly executed. By designing this product at the same time as the iPad itself, they have been able to incorporate aspects directly into the iPad. I am of course referring to the magnets which allow to this product to be attatched and removed as easily as it can be opened and closed. There are a pair of magnets built directly into the side of the iPad which the magnets on the smart cover then join up with to hold the cover in place. This system is made better by the fact that there is only one place on the device that the pairs of of magnets will line up. This means that to attach it and line it up it is as easy as putting the two together and they will line up by themselves, which means that your cover will always go on perfectly aligned.

Furthermore, the cover has cleverly been designed in panels so that they can fold up to create stands for your device. For example if you wanted to type on your device, you fold the cover back into a triangle shape which then sits on the table, giving your device a 30 degree angle, ideal for typing. Or you can stand the iPad against it to give it a 75 degree angle so you can use it to watch movies etc. This included stand function is very useful and I use it very often.

Not only this but the cover has a smart function that means that when the cover is shut the iPad automatically locks, and then wakes up when it is opened. This again is a very useful feature as it prevents wasted battery life from unknowingly leaving your device unlocked and it is also very nice to not have to open the case and then press the unlock button, having it all happen together is very easy and useful.

The only down side to this product is that the iPad does not fit in the charging dock with the cover on, but it is so easy to remove that this is hardly a problem. They also don't work with the original iPad as they do not have any built in magnets to hold them in place. It is also quite expensive, costing £35 for a polyurethane model or £59 for a leather one. These come in an array of colours as well. Blue, grey, green, orange and pink for polyurethane and brown, black, grey, cream and red for the leather ones. These funky colours go very well with either the black or the white iPads and are just very nice, useful and colorful accessories.
