Having recently purchased an Iphone 3gs I was looking for a suitable case that would protect both the front screen as well as the back from becoming scratched and damaged. After searching on Amazon I decided to purchase this Belkin leather folio case.
~ Who are Belkin? ~
Belkin are a manufacturing company that make and supply accessories for audio and technical equipment. This includes cases, chargers, leads and accessories for laptops, iphones, ipads, ipods, etc.
~ Which phone is it for? ~
This Belkin case is desgined to only fit the Iphone 3g and the Iphone 3gs models. It is specifically made to fit these phones width and depth wise. The case is also designed so that whilst the handset is within the case you are still able to easily access the screen and camera features.
~ How much? ~
I managed to buy my Belkin case on a special offer for only £4.99 instead of the usual £24.99 from Amazon. After having searched across other online stores the case is on average around £18 to purchase, so it's well worth shopping around to get the best deal.
~ What features does it offer? ~
This case is made from durable leather and is black in colour. The leather is smooth with a matt finish with the bottom of the front cover having a suede patterned effect. The inside of the case is a soft material which sits nicely against the handset without causing any damage.
The case is secured by a velcro fastener at the bottom of the case, to close you have to pull the elastic so as to stretch it and then pull it around the bottom of the case, and close of the back where the velcro sticks to a small square pad.
Inside the case the phone slides into a specifically designed slot whereby the screen is still accessible so you can actually use the phone whilst it is inside the case. The case also has a button which sits over the home button on your Iphone, meaning when pressed it presses the button on the Iphone. This allows for you to still be able to go to the home screen on your handset whilst it's in the case.
The case features a cut out slot at the bottom where you can plug your charger into the phone whilst it sits in the case. There is also a cut out hole on the back of the case where the lens of the camera is visible, allowing for you to use the camera without removing the handset from the case.
~ My Opinion ~
After having used this case for a few days with my handset, I have been fairly happy with it. The quality is good and the case certainly feels like it is worth more than the £4.99 I paid.
My phone seems to sit nicely in the case without moving around - as the case is specifically made for this model the fit is good which no excess room for the phone to slip.
There are a couple of small issues I have however. These are firstly with the velcro fastening. In order to close the case you really have to pull the elastic tab quite forcefully in order to make it stretch far enough to reach the back of the case where the faster needs to reach. Once in place it is fine and stays closed, however it does seem quite a job when a simple magnetic clasp would have been a better option.
The only other slight qualm I have and that is that when I open the front of the case the screen is quite exposed. If the velcro was to come open in my handbag the front of the case would easily open, thus allowing for scratching. This isn't a massive problem as once the case is closed it does seem fairly sturdy, but I suppose I could also buy a screen protector to eradicate this.
Overall I am happy with my purchase and would recommend if you are wanting a good fitting case for your Iphone 3g/3gs.
