Before I bought my I-Phone I had heard storys of how easy it was for it to be damaged, and gain wear and tear, so I was advised to go out and buy some sort of protective cover. There are so many on the market, and to be honest they all do they same thing, so I suppose it all depends on you as to which one you buy.
Personally I bought this one, the Belkin Verve Sleeve, which I have found very handy. You phone simply slides into the pocket and remains there until you want to take it out. There is a small flap which when in place locks both sides of the sleeve together through what I can only imagine to be a magentic strip.
There is a small home on one side so that your camera on the phone isnt hidden which is a great thing, as now you dont need to remove the phone from the sleeve, further reducing the possibility of any damage. As the I-Phone seems to have too glass panels on each side, I was really concious as to getting a protective material that would prevent this from smashing. Therefore, apart from protecting it with re-inforced steel, rubber is the next best thing. I have dropped my phone a lot, and so far there has been no damage, there isnt even a scratch on it.
I have my cover in black, but I have also seen it in a variety of different colours, just shop around. I asume that you will be able to buy this product online and in most phone shops, myself, I bought it on a market stall, and it only cost me £8, definitely worth it.
Considering everything, I would definitely recommend this product to others, and personally I think it should come with the I-Phone when you buy it anyway, but unfortunately no.
There are many options to cover the Iphone 4 with more and more coming out every day. I think it is a good idea to get a cover as soon as possible as the Iphone 4 has a hard shiny outer skin and any knock or scrape will mark it.
I bought this one from the internet as it looked stylish, was made of good quality leather and looked like it didnt disrupt viewing or pressing the screen. I paid £19.99 for this around 2 months ago. I didn't want a hard case as I felt it would scratch as badly as the iphone would. This was a little more expensive but in my opinion, well worth it.
When this arived it was well packaged and protected. The leather is really soft and it kind of moulds around the phone making a really snug fit. I dont think there's anything worse than a phone rattling around inside its case.
There is ample room for the camera lense at the back and the side buttons can still be pressed without removing the phone from its case.
The only problem I have found with this cover is that because it's made out of leather it is a little difficult to get out of your pocket. It kind of 'sticks' a little. This is however only a minor problem and the benefits way outweigh the problems.
Overall I would recommend a cover for your Iphone and this is a pretty good one to choose.
