I like my bargins and am always on the look out for a nice cheap item to save a bit of money on!
I got my iPhone on contract a few months ago and have been looking for a cover to protect it. I didn't want anything too chunky for everyday use as I liked the slim design of the iPhone.
I saw this cover on Amazon and it was only £1.69 so thought it a good bargin. It arrived quickly and I put it on my phone straight away. It was then that the first lesson of bargin shopping was learnt.
1) If you have an expensive item and you want to protect it, you will have to spend money to do this!
The cover was very soft and to be honest did not feel like it would really protect the phone if it was dropped. It was so easy to slip on which made it so easy to slip off too and when it was in my pocket the edges would be half off by the time I pull it out again!
It was at the point of realising lesson one that lesson two was learnt.
2) If you have a smart expensive phone, dont cheapen it with a tacky looking brightly coloured cover!
I bought the pink one but it was a kind of hot pink but a slight off coloured peachy pink. As it covered the sides of the phone it framed the phone and there was a rectangle of cheap peachy pink rubber around my brand new smart iPhone.
Not a good look and I took the cover off straight away opting for a clear cover which looked smart, stylish and in keeping with the iPhone!!
It is always nice to be able to say you have learnt from experiences in life, no matter how small!!
When I got my iPhone 4, I was very paranoid about it getting damaged, as it is an expensive phone and I could not afford any insurance on it. I decided that a good way to protect it was to get a case for it, and I wanted one that looked nice at the same time. I went onto Amazon and started to look around for a nice case, that didn't cost a fortune and that would protect my phone at the same time.
After a little while of searching through the many options that Amazon presented to me, I settled on a Protective Silicone Case in Purple. It was also available in many other colours, but I really like purple, so I chose to buy that colour. For those who are interested, you can also buy this case in pink, light blue, navy blue, black, red and many, many more.
The case, as the name suggests is made from Silicone. It feels some what rubbery, and it is nice and smooth to the touch. It comes supplied with a screen protector for the front of the phone, as the case only covers the back and the sides of the iPhone 4. It slips on really easily, hardly any effort at all and it almost hugs the phone as soon as it is in place. The case has sections cut out for the few buttons on the phone, like the volume and lock buttons, so you can still easily use the iPhone 4's functions whilst protecting the phone.
The screen protector that comes with it is like a very think sheet of plastic which you have to peel off some backing paper, and then gently place onto the front of your phone. You pretty much only get one chance to put this on the phone without messing it up, I didn't quite get mine on correctly and had to live with bubbles on the screen for a while until I gave in and just pulled the protector off. It does takes a little patience to put this on the phone, and that is really something I have none of. Also ensure not to get your fingers on the sticky side of this, as you will end up with your fingerprints easily showing on the phone.
I found that the silicone case did protect my iPhone 4 very well, even when it got dropped there was no damage or marks to my phone. It was still easy to hold and use the phone, as the case is actually quite thin, so it added no extra bulk or weight to the phone. I did find that this case soon became a bit of a problem though.
The first problem I had with the case was it would move around easily on the phone. If I put my phone in my pocket or in my bag, the case would become a nightmare. When I tried to take my phone out of my pocket, it became a struggle as the case would try and stick to the fabric inside my pocket. This usually ended up with the phone coming out of the pocket and the case being left behind. This then started to cause the case to stretch and loosen, which meant it did not hug the phone so well and started coming off if I ever put my phone in my bag. It also started slipping in my hands when I was on the phone, and this got really old really quick, so I ended up removing the case and have not used it since.
I think as a protector for the iPhone 4, this case does work well, but it may not work well for long. I think mine lasted about 2 - 3 months before I finally had enough. I now use a hardbacked case, as these stay put and I have no problems with them. The colours of the silicone case are lovely, especially the purple one. It was a very vibrant, pretty purple and I would like to have that on a hard case some day.
If you do wish to buy one of these silicone cases, they are available in most phone stores, and on phone case stalls around the country but I have noticed that these will cost you between £9.99 and £12.99 where as you can buy them on Amazon for just under £5 like I did. I think it is a no brainer as to where to buy it from as the price difference is quite a big one.
I give this case a 3 out of 5, as it did it's job for a while, and it does look lovely, but alas it does not have the longevity required of it. Somewhat recommended.
