Advantages: Camera
Disadvantages: battery life if using the internet too much
Here I am again writing about yet another mobile phone.. But rest assured I think this may be the last one for quite some time..! No actually let me rephrase this it will be the last one for 17-18 months.. As I have finally got myself a contract phone, a decent phone for so much less than I would have been paying in credit..!
So I went into the t-mobile shop in Boston and had a gaunt around looking at the free phones I could have... The list was quite long and if you know me.. You know it takes ages for me to decide what I want, especially when I'm going to have it for a very long time..
The people in the T-mobile shop were all really friendly and I struck up a bit of banter with one of them (no idea what his name was) and he explained what I could get for my money, and the bonuses I could have... Then he showed me the full range of phones for my price plan, then I had to choose..! After having a little bit of a play around with one of the men who worked in T-mobile's phones.. I picked one..!
The LG Viewty..!
Why..?
To be honest there was no reason I got this phone other than the fact the guy in the shop sold is so well to me and I loved the fact it was totally touch screen..! It was mainly the price plan that sold it to me, but the phone despite its size is very stylish..!
Prices..
Well I bought my phone for free..! Yay..!
On every network there is an offer for this phone.. I'll give you the details of my own as it is by far the deal with the most for your money..
T-mobile:
A free LG Viewty
700 minutes
Unlimited texts
And Free web'n'walk.. (internet on your phone)
(Yes I got the offer off the TV..!)
It is available on pay as you go for about £160 if you can get a good deal from varying shops like Carphone warehouse and such, but to be honest for a phone of this quality, providing your over 18 a contract is the best deal.
In the box..
At the first point of opening. I got nowhere near the box Ash in the shop was employed to take it all out for me. But when I got home I took it all apart to see what I had received all included in my price.. I got:
The phone - of course..
The battery and charger..
The stylus to save sticky fingerprints..
USB cable and earphones..
Instruction manual and cd-rom for phone synching..
The Actual Phone and its features..
5 Mega-pixel camera and flash, and 3G capability, with video capability, and movie creation option..
A digital music player
Expandable memory
Internet connection
Call logs and all the usual features that phones have..!
The actual phone is 112grammes..
Its 10.4cm tall,
5.4cm wide
And 1.5cm in depth..
With a total touch interactive screen with multiple options for everything especially with sending messages.. The handwriting function is quite a novelty idea but does get irritating..!
So overall it's a tall and wide phone, but is light enough not to be awkward to use.
Firstly..
When you first turn the phone on, obviously if you haven't inserted your sim card it will ask you do to so..
The opening screen will ask you to calibrate the touch pad.. Which means using the stylus you will have to push the centre of a blinking cross to enable you to use your touch screen effectively.. And not have any nasty mishaps with pushing the wrong bit at the wrong time..!
The first charge takes approximately 12hours, don't be fooled by the phone telling you it's charged after about an hour and a half because it's not..! I've done this with far too many of my phones and ruined the battery from the outset, which trust me is not a good idea..!
It may take a while to get orientated about the touch screen as it can be quite annoying the way the pages scroll up, the opposite way to how you would expect.. Or that could just be my handset..!
So the phone in general..
The Menu...
The main menu on this phone is divided up into four sections..
The Messaging and dialling icons
The multimedia options
The tool options with alarm clock
And the settings section tom alter things like the time and the date..
The Camera
There is two cameras in this phone.. One is 5 mega-pixel on the back for normal photos taking. The second is a 3G camera, which can be used for self portraits, for Dooyoo photos!!!
There is plenty of different options with the camera to alter just how good your photo can be. There are varying levels of flash.. Red eye reduction, automatic and switched off for use when there is only a little light..
There is image quality function which varies the amount of photos that can be fitted into the memory of the phone or your memory card..
There is also multiple colour tones, for arty photos in black and white..
Along with the self-timer and multiple shots the photos can be shot in automatic focus or with anti-wobble function with a button on the side of the phone itself..
For the biggest photos the size of the photo tends to be around 200-450 kb per photo which is generally smaller than on a digital camera.
The messaging features
To send a message, there are a number of options.. To use a conventional keypad just on the screen, with or without predictive text. There is also a keyboard application which is the same as on a keyboard of the computer which is handy for shorter messages, especially if you are better with a computer keyboard rather than a normal phone keypad..
There is also a handwriting feature, which the screen picks up your letters and forms the message through using the stylus on the touch pad, there is also the total handwriting screen that can be used but because t I quite small it is fairly difficult to use..
From what I have experienced the memory of the inbox and outbox and sent items are relatively large, I haven't been told my memory is full or nearly full yet..!
There is also the settings which can enable delivery reports and the little things to tell you the person on the other end has got your message.. Providing the network allows it you can also receive emails into your email inbox..!
Multimedia Features..
There is a number of ways to view your photos in list or grid view, where you can see the picture landscape or portrait and edit them into a still photo film..! There is also a voice recorder, music, playlists and an FM Radio, providing your earphones are plugged in with the antenna which are provided in the box.. As surprised as I was there is no games pre-loaded onto this phone so, unfortunately they would have to be downloaded at a price obviously..!
The ringtone's are a bit naff, as they always are on these phones because the USB cable is provided so you can have a ringtone of your own choice..!
Connectivity
As good as this phone is it just gets better, the blue tooth quality is brilliant every time I have needed to use it I have found the other phone or computer dongle almost instantly..
The internet connection (when it works) is quick and painless, and despite not having a laptop size screen is still clear enough to see everything that's needed on a web page..!
In general
This phone is pretty fantastic, it has all the features of any new phone as standard plus so many extras that just make this phone so desirable..
The camera quality is fantastic, and are quickly and almost effortlessly shifted from phone to compute or from phone to phone, due to the compact size of the photos and the fantastic blue tooth..
The speaker quality is superb for a multifunction phone such as this and even the highest volume doesn't crackle the speakers on the back..
The battery life, is not to appalling providing the first charge is done correctly at a good few days providing you don't go over the top with internet access..
The talk time is about three hours which is a little small depending on how much business you want to do on this phone..
Wither way for a domestic or business phone it is of superb quality and if you drop it it'll still work just the same as before.. A brilliant durable phone, that will see you through a 18 month contract with no problems from my experience..!
Summary: Stylish feature packed LG
