Advantages: Looks and works great.

Disadvantages: Battery life seems poor

Now I'm a technological kind of a guy but mobile phones have just never floated my boat. I don't know why but part of me thinks it's a sort of snobbery. I love my computers and pc based gadgetry and I've sort of looked down at phones as being a bit backward.

This is the first phone I've had which has begun to shed some light on my naivety and bloody-mindedness. I know this isn't exactly new stuff but, hey, you can wire these things up to a computer and do stuff. The scales have fallen from my eyes. Hallelujah!

That said, I'm not a texter and I wouldn't use a phone to take pics. I speak to people on it for as short a time as possible. As a result I can't waffle on about GPRS this and EDGE that and still sound as if I have any idea what I'm talking about. So I won't. Trawl through the specs at the end if you give a toss. I don't.

Looks
*****
Gorgeous. Really gorgeous. It's a Kylie phone. All slim and petite with a curious innocence that makes you want to fiddle. With it.

It is so, so thin. Just oven 1cm - hardly there at all. When the slide mechanism is shut it's barely 10cm tall and about 5cm wide. The huge 240x320 262k screen takes up most of that. Mine is black, contrasting well with the colours on the screen and the circular navigation button below. Nice.

Menu system
***********
Looks gorgeous on screen. Great colours and huge unmistakeable icons. Totally cretin-proof. Took the wife ages to work it out. Ha.
The system is very intuitive and I've not referred to the manual once. Probably more due to the dangly version of genitalia I seem to have inherited but I REALLY haven't had to look. Just as well because I can't actually find it but that's another (dull) story. Best menu I've used - including Nokia which I always found good.

Computer software
***************
The Samsung software is really good. A revelation to me really. Easy exchange of video and mp3 from computer to the phone which was picked up with ease. Simple drag-and-drop affair. The phone has 60Mb memory which is expandable via a microSD card which slots into the side. The software will also sync with outlook for numbers and addresses as well as your calendar info. The software actually looks as good as the phone as well! Good effort Samsung! As I said before, I know phones have done this for ages but I'm a total phone retard and it's a real plus I've pooh-poohed in the past.

Camera
******
3.2 megapixel camera with totally bloody pointless LCD flash. What's that all about? It'll take a decent photo outside (which is easily transferable to the pc), but inside its rubbish. Blurry and dark is all I've had so far so I'll stick to my camera thanks. Phone camera always strike me as being OK for spy's but are there for us civilians just because they can be. I suppose they could be good for capturing a rare moment incognito, when stealth is of the essence but as my wife rarely wears a skirt they're a bit superfluous to me.

Battery
Uh-oh - I suppose there has got to be a draw back somewhere. The battery in this thing is tiny. Now I know miniaturisation is the in-thing but it has to serve a purpose and this phone has struggled to stay alive for more than a day on standby. The website will tell you 220 hours. Knock the zero off. I must be doing something wrong but so far its life has been limited.

Keys
****
Tiny phone, tiny keys. The number pad is still very useable surprisingly and I have chunky man-fingers. The navigation keys are equally tidgy but again they have posed no problem. There are 2 'enter' keys, for want of a better word which are touch sensitive and boy can they be sensitive. They take a bit of getting used to but after a while they become easier to control but I still occasionally end up in a strange place I never wanted to go to. Perhaps I'm just a clumsy get.

Now, if I were to talk about anything else I'd be making it up. Like I say, I'm no aficionado of mobile technology. For those who like to know exactly which acronyms to attach to this particular model - here they are.

How does compared to other Samsung models or brands like LG or Nokia?

Love it!
I like the idea that mobile cameras are for spys!

Pretty good review but what about the sound quality for making and receiving calls? Also, I find that long list of features really isn't useful - it would have been better to just give us the URL to a site where that information appears.
