Nokia N95
by xisorosix
A good phone that I used for nearly 2 years! I really liked using the phone with its 5 megapixel camera and two-slide feature that allowed you to use one part as a normal keypad with 12 keys (no qwerty keyboard) and the other end as effectively a music player with the four buttons forward, backward, play/pause, stop). ...
Aesthetics wise, I really like the silver front and deep purple back colouring with the comfortably handy switch that allows you to open and close the lens (which features Carl Zeiss & Tessar optics) with flash and autofocus. The phone also has a front camera so you can take photos easier (particularly if you like taking photos of yourself!) The screen at the front is a 2.6 inch display with 16 million colours - it's really nice and comfy for viewing even in dim lighting. The front of the phone (before you start sliding away...) has the basic buttons like the call button and home menu. On one side there is also a camera button for quick photo taking, a volume button and a media button. On the other side there is your 3.5mm headphone jack and a slot for memory cards. Mine one is the lower memory, 4gb N95, there is one with 8gb too.
Other functions include built-in loudspeaker, FM radio, and very fast data transfer (HSDPA) - these have all been really handy and easy to use, especially the loudspeaker. The phone also offers very good connection - there is support for bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, infrared, wireless LAN, TV-output support. The sound quality is pretty good and I had no complaints plugging in my headphones and listening to music on the go using the slider. There is also built-in GPS, wi-fi connectivity - I can't comment on these since I didn't use the functions much. There are so many functions to play around with that you can quickly lose sight of the bad things about the phone...
I disliked the unstable firmware that meant my phone would be slow and freeze up occasionally, and more and more as the phone past the 1 year mark. This became a real problem so much so that before my contract was over, I'd had to find another phone as a substitute! I was having problems receiving calls and it would take forever to do basics like sending out text messages! The battery life isn't particularly good - this was expected given the size of the phone. The battery standby length is around 200 hours.
Another negative against this phone is that it is really chunky for a mobile phone! You have the two-way slider, but if I could have a slimmer phone instead, I would! It looks like a giant brick when carried in your jean pocket and although it is comfy to hold, the dimensions aren't really ideal at 99 x 53 x 21 mm.
Overall, with the negatives out weigh the positives for me for this phone since despite the applications and functions the phone comes with, it's really reliability and battery life that matter more. This phone was one of the most advanced phones when it first came out in 2007, and it was fun to use, but it caused me too much hassle when it started to play up... Read the complete review |

Nokia N95

In my opinion, this is the last really good phone that Nokia made. Of course, that is a comparison to how it was at the time...it's been left behind now...but the N95 could still really have something to offer someone that wants a phone with buttons and good functionality.
So what can this phone still offer? Well it has a 5MP ... camera...which cannot be sniffed at. The picture quality is good though sometimes a bit slow to take a picture. It also has a good digital zoom and focus, and flash. The front camera is also useful if you like the idea of video calls.
This phone has good connectivity...GPS, bluetooth, Wi-Fi....some of the reasons that I got one back in the day. But they're all functions that haven't been outdated. It will bluetooth a picture or connect to a wireless hotspot as well as anything else will! It also has a nice OS...ironically similar to the 5800 (which I've reviewed and slated for having a poor UI)...but the difference is that the icons look nicer and because you have to navigate with the keys, it isn't frustrating to get through the menus! It has a music player, a web browser...and with the Ovi Store downloadable, you can even add a few more apps. Not seeming so much of a relic now, is it?
One of the thing I found a bit pointless were the music keys. If you slide from the top down, you get the media keys (basically play/pause, skip forward and back)...which I never really used...I didn't use the music player much in landscape mode.
One of the other features which was new in this phone (and also strange because it wasn't mentioned in the features until someone stumbled upon it) is the accelerometer. The screen can auto-rotate like most modern day smartphones...and there are also a few apps that can take advantage of this.
It has a 3.5mm headphone jack so you don't have to worry about getting a stupid adapter like quite alot of previous Nokia phones. The charger is the small classic Nokia type. The battery life is good...especially compared to phones nowadays...I could go for about 4-5 days without needing a charge. And I think this phone looks nice...it has a cool look to it.
It really wouldn't spring to mind as peoples first choice when looking for phones....but this oldy surprisingly competes with modern day phones...having similar functionality in quite a few ways, with the bonus of a better battery life. I think that fans of the phone with buttons would definitely enjoy this phone. Read the complete review |

Nokia N95 8GB
by missj1981
Reason for choosing this phone was the end of my contract and thereby the ability to choose a new phone. I was looking for a phone with a good camera and good internet. My choice was the Nokia N95 8GB version in 2008.
The phone comes in a compact box. In this box you have the phone, sim card, adapter, headset, USB cable, user ... manual and an installation CD.
I like the look of the Nokia N95 which is very pleasant. I just opted for the 8GB version for the black appearance. This gives the phone a solid appearance. He is also only available in black, unless you opt for the older version, you get it in gray. The first thing to notice is that the screen is quite large, which is very easy to use. Especially with the internet gives a clear overview of the pages and also watching videos, it is doable. On the side of the screen are the navigation buttons easy to operate. You can extend the top to both sides. Push him to the right, then the screen gets horizontally, so you can watch videos a "bigger" screen display. Also you get keys to the left as 'play' and 'stop' ideal for listening to music. Push it to the left you will get the 'normal' phone keypad you need to call / text. Menus look good styled and uncluttered.
Call / text, works fine. When calling other people are well understood and it is easy to turn the sound louder / softer. You also have the function to call with the sound speaker set. Again people are well understood. texting works well especially with the T9 function.
Internet works well. If you go on the internet gives you choice over the phone which network you connect to. You get to the menu where your bookmarks as a Web address can complete, but there are also your saved web pages and you can see history. There are already saved pages, but I do not find them really useful. Navigating between pages is very good and I think it's very clear.
Camera, excellent. Two cameras with this phone! A front that is clearly less well at the back. This I never use, but it is funny that it is present. The camera on the back works much better. This is a 5 megapixel camera and why I have chosen for this phone. The pictures look very good and the videos are of good quality. Flash is available and works well with pictures taken in the dark. Fortunately the phone when taking pictures no annoying sound coming from my previous phone was the case. By 8Gb on your phone, you do not have to make use of space.
MP3 player, perfect. Mp3 I find the perfect on this phone, especially the sound. Another reason why I've bought just for this phone. With the included software is very easy to get your music from your PC to transfer to your phone. The sound is very good, either through the headset as by the sound speakers. A friend of mine had the older version of this phone and I was surprised at the quality of sound, especially for a phone. Now with my phone, I am very happy about it.
Radio Player, reasonable. The radio player I find reasonable. You have the radio headset to use, but the range I often minimal. I live in Groningen, but every time I get error while listening. I do not know if this is so much on the phone, but it is a pity. Is good that you have the choice to listen to sound from the speakers and not only through the headset.
Games / software, good. This phone is very easy to download software and games. I use Gmail, and before I downloaded that software, I immediately get access to my account and my e-mail can conveniently view. I also have the games Worms 2007 and Age of Empires downloaded and these are good to play.
Memory, perfect. 8GB of memory is more enough for me and find it perfectly right that this phone is. Perhaps you pity him in the future can expand, but for me it still seems unnecessary.
Battery is very good and no problems with it. Of course if one day you call a lot, listened to music and surfing the web are, the battery quickly. But I've never had the problem that it is completely empty and suddenly fell away.
Very nice simple phone for people who mostly besides calling / texting also pictures / videos and music to listen. Internet also goes well. With a large screen that the screen you can quickly get dirty. All in all, easy to use and highly recommended! Read the complete review |
