The Alcatel Club DB was my first mobile phone, as I was on a tight budget, and it seemed the best value at the time. That was only last year though, and it was barely months before I was unsatisfied. Although it makes calls perfectly well and you can write and recieve messages on it, the interface leaves somewhat to be desired.
Although the phone will display all characters, it is only able to create upper case, which will come across as SHOUTING in text msgs. The length of names available within the directory was also pitifully short. The other major drawback was the message system.
Rather than choosing a message to read from a menu, all messages that had been written or received were lumped into one menu which has to be scrolled through to find any kept messages.
The actual buttons themselves were also inefficent, being small plastic buttons on the side of the phone, which my fingers easily slipped off, and became sore to use after any length of time.
To mention the good points of the phone, it does look quite nice, and it is very solid, and does not mind being dropped onto tarmac!
Despite this, better phones are now available in the budget range so this Alcatel gets a thumbs down from me.
