Advantages: Not many ppl in UK own one, Different, Looks expensive
Disadvantages: no games, crap ringtones
I'm sure you have realized that UK is obsessed with Nokias. Everywhere you go you can hear a Nokia phone SMS being received or a Nokia phone ringing. I was fed up with the "versatility" of Nokia phones. Nokia says that you can personalize your phone, but they never said to which extend! You cannot create your SMS sound, you can only choose three or four different onces (not sure as I never bought Nokias). And as for phone covers, it's the same. You can only buy covers that are available on the market. And you will soon find out that your best friend bought the same cover for christmas. I knew of Alcatel when I was in Belgium. It is a top brand for mobiles in Belgium. So I went to their site and chose the One Touch View for £70 (you can get the One Touch View WAP for the same price) and I got an Orange SIM card to go with it. A total of £95 for a pay-as-you-go phone, not bad at all I thought. The phone has NO games and has aweful ringtones. I have to admit, that maybe a ringtone composer would have been good. So do not buy this phone if you expect to get games with it. It's a phone at its simplest. Using the phone is real easy. As all phones, you need one day to get used to it, but you will soon get the hang of it. One of the best thing about the phone is its looks. Although only £70, it looks like this phone could have been bought for £120. The bottons press well and the screen is big. One of the features of the phone is "Speaker mode". While talking to someone, you can press a botton and have your conversation with a group of people in the room. By pressing the botton, the hearing volume increases a lot so you can hear your caller from about 3m away. Reception of voice is better, so you can speak from further away. Enabling you to have a conversation with more than one person at a time. ********* Conclusion **********
I only advice this phone to people who do not want a phone owned by half the population of UK. This phone is very simple, sometimes too simple and more features would have been welcome.

- 30/12/01 If you add any more detail then give me a bell. At the moment it talks more about Nokia than the Alcatel phone. Maybe a more detailed insight into the Alcatel features would be a good idea. |
