Cheap Phone for the Basics
Member Name: hannahplusone
Advantages: Web browsing, simple layout, small and compact
Disadvantages: Touch screen can play up, stylus can be a pain to handle, lack of games
The Alcatel OT 708, at a cheap £14.99, isn't a smartphone that works wonders, but a small and compactable phone that does the basic text, picture messaging, calling etc. With a touch screen and stylus, if you are looking into a smartphone - especially one with a touch screen - this is a good way to test it out.
While having the usual basics, there is also a radio - the phone comes with headphones so that you can connect, a basic camera that takes grainy photos and the usual calculator, reminders, calenders etc. You can also access the web, which is handy for social networking like facebook, emails and Google.
While it does the job, my main qualm is that the touch screen is extremely sensitive, or at times not working at all. I often find that times when I am pressing one button, it presses the one below, or doesn't press anything, or if you press one key, for example in a text message, it will change the predictive text set up. I personally am not a fan of the stylus either;every time you turn off the phone, you have to activate the stylus which takes an awfully long time.
I also thought that the phone would be MP3 compatible, but it is not, so the ringtones are not the best of quality.
All in all, it's a phone that you get your money's worth out of, but don't expect anything special.
